I have been using this lens on my Canon Rebel EOS for years, but this morning it won't detach from the camera.

Hello,
While turning the lens look at the lens mount. Does the lens turn but the mount stay stationary? If so maybe there is a connection issue. With the release button pressed then rapidly turning the lens back and forth, maybe it will release. Maybe something simple, or the lens connector to the lens mount or lens mount itself is the issue.

Linkage problem,

Make sure lens is set on AF and not M. Clean body and lens contacts with a Q-tip dipped in alcohol. Try multiple lenses to make sure it is not a problem with just one lens. Put the lens on M and turn the front and make sure it turns freely and is not stuck by impact/spillage etc. Push down on the release button and make sure you have two distinct 'pops' (release switch may be broken). Gently lift up mirror and make sure that the AF sub mirror also comes up properly. Impact can break the little plastic guide pin for the sub mirror so that it is not in the right position and the AF will not work. Also make sure that the spring that makes the sub mirror come up is in position (they come off). Can be on either the right or left side of the mirror depending upon the model.
These are the steps I would take if you brought your camera into the shop I work at.

According to ehow:

Turn off your Canon 1000D and remove the memory card, lens, battery and time/date secondary battery. The secondary battery is a small, round battery about the size of a dime found in the same compartment as the main battery. It is located in a vertical slot. Slide out the secondary battery by pressing your finger on the battery and pulling it toward you.
  • Place the body cap on your camera to keep dust out. Attach the front and back lens caps on your lens to prevent scratches and other damage.
  • Let the camera sit for 20 minutes. This will clear the camera's memory.
  • Place the date/time secondary battery and a fully charged primary battery in the camera and turn it on.
  • Press the shutter release button (the button you push to take a picture). If you are still receiving an Error 99, the problem is most likely caused by the camera body itself. The camera body must be serviced by a professional camera technician.
  • Turn off the camera and insert the memory card. Turn the camera back on and press the shutter release button. If you are receiving an Error 99, the error is most likely caused by the memory card. Turn off your camera and insert a different memory card. Turn the camera back on and press the shutter release again.
  • Turn off the camera and reattach the lens. Turn on the camera and press the shutter release button. If you receive an Error 99, turn the camera off and remove the lens.
  • Turn the camera so that it is face down, and gently clean the lens contacts on the camera body with a number 2 pencil eraser or soft cloth. The lens contacts are the eight small, gold pieces on the bottom of the lens mount. Be careful not to let any of the eraser scraps fall into the camera body.
  • Turn the lens so that the side that attaches to the camera is upside down. Use the eraser or soft cloth to clean the lens contacts on the lens, being careful not to let any eraser scraps fall into the lens.
  • Reattach the lens to the camera. Turn on the camera and press the shutter release button. If you are receiving an Error 99, the error is most likely caused by the lens. Take the lens to a professional camera technician for repair.

My lens won,t push out from the camera .

On switch on if the lens wont push out, then it is possible that the lens motor drive is faulty.
remove battery and replace then as you switch on tap slightly on the hood to release any jammed motor drive.
If there is no result ,then if you are equipped with right tools and expertise , can check if there is any mechanical fault to release off as a fault in the board might requrie part from the authorised dealer.

My nikon d70 wont focus at all

    • Make sure both lens and body are set for autofocus. There are two switches near each other with "AF" and "M" settings.
    • Check the camera's focusing settings, or do a factory reset (from menu) to 'start over'. Usually helps to have AF-Assist on.
    • Try setting the AE/AF-lock button (upper rear, near right thumb when holding camera) to turn on AF. The camera may respond better to this than half-pressing the shutter release.
    • Make sure the lens is fully attached to the camera. You shouldn't be able to rotate the lens without depressing the lens release button, and you should be able see a tight seal between the two.

    Can't get my lense off!

You can use any mm lens you want as long as it was made to fit the K1000.
Is the lens a Pentax lens ?
Push the lens release button down and turn lens Clock-wise then while holding release button down quickly turn lens counter clock-wise, it should come right off.
If it did not then it must be disassembled to remove the lens.

    Cannot remove lens

    Dear Shutterbug2,
To release the lens you need to push the lens release button which is on the bottom left of the lens mount, and then turn the lens counterclockwise. If this doesn't work then it is most likely a broken lens release button, and you should then bring the camera to an authorized service technician.

    Sincerely,
    Allan
