I want to vacuum the lint from inside my maytag dryer (Electric model) How do I get the back off? It appears to be a wrap around one is there any way to get a vacuum inside the dryer?

Thanks Joe, I understand but will this be sufficient to get all the lint out ? This is my sisters dryer and she says it emits a burning smell . I know from past experience how much lint can build up . My own dryer gets the back pulled off and vacuumed every six months . The pipe looks clean inside and is a steel pipe up to the roof about eight feet above the dryer. It has an aluminium pipe from the dryer to the wall and then a galvanised pipe out to the outside.

Pull the dryer out from the wall and remove the vent pipe. vacuum inside the pipe hole and in the pipe...........go to the outdoor end of the pipe and vacuum that also.

Thanks for getting back. Sounds like a little sleuthing may be in order. Chances are that the "smell" could be in the door gasket.....give it the nose test.

OR the smell could be coming from a slowly deteriorating dryer belt, If that is the problem there is most likely bits of rubber inside the cabinet.

OR it could be the motor or the circuit board giving off an odor.

Let me know what you discover.

Clothes take long to dry on Kitchen Aid Model - KEYE660WWHO

First thing to do is vacuum out all lint from dryer, unplug, remove back and vacuum all lint out of it, also where vent hooks up. Then clean out duct work from inside of home to where it exits. Excess lint holds moister and causes dryer not to dry.

Why is my maytag dryer running for a long time but not getting my clothes dry, and the vent pipe its clean?

I note the vent is clean.... Now start checking for heat from that vent with the dryer on. You did not mention the model number so we at FixYa do not know if this is a gas or electric dryer. If it is electric cycle the circuit breaker to off (PUSH hard to OFF) then back on. There is a chance that only 1 breaker is connected. It would run and not heat.

Also the airflow out the back of the dryer should gently push a relaxed hand / wrist away from the vent outlet. If it does not do this you have an airflow problem. Look inside the dryer vent outlet for any signs of lint build up. You can have a clean vent but a blocked dryer vent inside the dryer. Go outside the house and check the thru the wall vent hood and flapper for lint buildup. This is a VERY common airflow restriction point. check BOTH sides of the metal flapper for lint. Lastly if after all of this you still have airflow problems the blower wheel hub can be broken or lint on the blower wheel.

Pull the lint filter and wash the filter with vinegar and water then soap and water. Fabric sheet particulate can cause restricted airflow. Also take a flashlight and look hard around the lint filter area for lint build up. Use a folded metal coat hanger to assist in lint removal along with a vacuum and crevice tool.

If you do not have heat... at all... after all of this; please respond with a model number so we can sort out where to go next in troubleshooting.

Thanks for choosing FiXya.

It starts out fine but shuts itself off after only a few minutes.

It appears that you don't have air movement through the machine. Check the vent hose and outside fixture for lint build-up. Vacuum the machine's inside pipe and underneath the lint filter. Wash the lint filter in hot water and detergent to remove fabric softener deposits (which will block air flow). Check for airflow outside when the dryer runs. Hope this helps!

Dryer shutsdown during cycle. Replaced high temp thermostat and heater coil. Did not fix

your dryer may have a drive motor problem. its probably plugged with lint. you can try to vacuum out the lint from inside the motor, but it would be better to take an air compressor or the vacuum blowing to get all the lint out.
if the motor gets overheated, it will shut itself off until it cools off.

I have a maytag neptune dryer and there is always build up under the lint screen area. I am wondering if there is supposed to be a seal aroound the lint screen itself as mine has never had one??

I have one and there is no seal. I just stick the vacuum cleaner in there every so often or use the fluff from inside the lint screen to give it a wipe out, it likes to stick to itself.

The dryer is heating but clothes aren't drying. There isn't much lint on the filter and the inside door and lint area is damp with wet lint spread around that area. It is a MDE5500AY model. Serial...

This just happened to us a couple of weeks ago, and we called a repair man. I might be able to save you $45 for a service call. In our dryer, the lint can fall out of the lint screen and clog up in the back of the dryer. Remove the back of the dryer (you might have to unscrew the lint screen too) and the ductwork inside the back (it's quite easy, I've now done it since my daughter dropped my sunglasses down the lint screen hole) just keep an eye on your screws. Remove the trapped lint, and vaccum out the hose, making sure there's no kinks in the hose as it runs to your house exhaust. Put the dryer back together and see if it works. If not, you've got a fan problem and will need a repairman. But apparently this is the most common dryer problem and will take about 20 minutes of your time to straighten out.

Maytag electric dryer over heats

I repaired one of these yesterday. I started by poping the top0883dcc.jpg
I removed the front by getting the screws out from inside that hold the front on. I unhooked the lid switch and got the front out of the way. Guess what I found? A big ball of lint right in front of the blower. The whole filter housing was full of lint!. To make matters worse the blower was loose!. So I used my super duty shop vac to clean it up and I replaced the fuse(mounted next to heat element)yes it was blown because of the lint ball. 3e11794.jpg
