I just had this problem and did a search on the web and found the solution. There is a switch on the back of your DVD player for Progressive Scan. Turn it off and the message will go away and your player will work.

I dont think so
the DVD palyer is playing the videos that means the Player is connected properly
i would suggest you to check the color settings either of the DVD player (you might find how to do this in the manual, would be easy) else check wheather the color setting on your tv are not set to SCEAM on the video mode.

I know this isn't what you want to hear, but the problem you've described can't be fixed with troubleshooting. Your DVD player needs to be repaired. There is a part that has developed a defect and needs to be replaced. The problem is Memorex doesn't repair their DVD players, they simply replace them when a customer has a warranty claim. If your player is no longer in warranty (the warranty is 90 days from the date of purchase) please call the above number to see if your model qualifies for any out of warranty options. Getting the player repaired locally would cost far more than what you paid for it, and that's if someone could repair it without any replacement parts from Memorex.

Sounds like a build up of dust on the lens.
2 options -
Either buy a DVD lens cleaner
Note DVD LENS cleaner, NOT DVD Cleaner the latter is for the discs, not the player
or second option is to remove lid from your player (usually 5 or 6 screws) and gently swab the lens with a cotton bud or similar soft lint free product. Try not to push too hard on the lens or you may damage the mechanism.
The lens is really obvious as it faces upwards and looks like a small round clear glass bead.
Make sure its unplugged too!
