they would need to change the coil indoors to a 3 ton. If the blower speed can be increased it should be fine.

Testimonial: "Thnx for the input. Looks like you were dead on."

Both the other solutions are NOT proper Advice, i'm not saying this a put down, but if you want it to be right both of those answers are wrong
The truth is if you replace the condenser weather its a heat pump or strait cool, you need to match the equipment inside, ALWAYS use matched equipment otherwise your setting yourself up for failure. I've seen a ton of mechanics in my industry really mess people up by mis matching, Also you can install or service anything with refrigerant in it with out an EPA license. Trust me do it right, cause I hate having to tell people after its to late. Another thing these two are not telling you is that you need to match the metering device to the outdoor unit in order for it to work properly as well, and by the FLUSHING is risky on a coil, ok with line sets but risky with a coil.

Yes you will have problems you can go up a 1/2 half ton on the coil but not with the condenser don't do it you will regret it even with an expansion valve.

### What is the HP rating if a 3 ton air conditioner?

Hi, this depends on the compressor that is installed in this unit. It may be a Copeland scroll, a Tecumseh, its hard to say. Most compressors are around 2 hp for a 3 ton unit. On the data plate it will tell you the h.p. of the blower and condenser fan motors such as 1/4 h.p., or 1/3. If you can get the name and model numbers from the top of your compressor, you can call a a/c, Refrigeration parts house, wholesale and they will have it in there manuals. The B.T.U. rating for your compressor is 36,000. There are 12,000 BTU's per ton of cooling, this is something that almost no one knows, but now you do. If it were a smaller unit such as a 2 and 1/2 ton, it would be 30,000 B.T.U.'s. You can look at the model number of a unit and you will see numbers like this, 024, 2-ton, 030, 21/2 ton, and 036 a 3 ton unit and so on. Your compressor alone will be in the range of a 2 horse unit, which ever the brand of compressor they installed in it. Please don't forget to rate me on this as I know you will be kind. ### Does not seem to be sufficient cool for a 1600 sq ft manufactured home coming from the Coleman unit installed. Some vents more air, others less air. Unit runs without stopping ever. Can you give us some...

Hi John, depending on the size, I would need the model number from the outdoor unit if it is a split system, you should have 400 cfm per ton of cooling. If you have a 1600 SQ' home, and a 3 ton unit, 3 x 400 cfm is 1200. It would be to small. There are 12,000 B. T. U.'s of cooling per ton. 2 tons would be 24,000 b t u's. 3 tons would be 36, 000 b.t.u.'s. Also, most contractors put lever dampers in the duct work that can be adjusted. They will put a red flag where the lever is and we can adjust the flow to balance out the house. I don't know where your ducts are, under or above, but with a good light find the crawl space and check it out. Get the model number and call it in to get the tonnage or send it to me and I will tell you. It will have a 024, 030, 036, 042, or, 060 in the number, MODEL number and figure like I told you above, 12,000 per ton. 060 would be a 5 ton. This will let you know if the unit is the right size or not. Please rate me on this and I know you will be kind. Thank you John.

### Not cooling as it should

If you have a crushed, kinked, or otherwise restricted fitting in the system, it's possible the cooling may be affected. Pressure readings can be thrown off, and refrigerant flow can be inhibited.

Since the unit is new, you should have a complete parts and labor warranty, so ask the installer what the reason is that the system doesn't provide the cooling you were probably promised when they sold it to you. They should have taken into account the location of the condensing unit, the size and insulation in your house, indoor and outdoor conditions, your geography/climate, and any other load factors before selling you the system.

### We are replacing a 22 year old ruud UACC030/36AHW38 (this is listed as the equipment being removed from our home by one of the companies who has given us a quote). One of the companies is telling us that...

Hi, there are 12,000 btus per ton of cooling. You go by the numbers in the model number. I see you have a 030 which would be a 21/2 ton. I also see a /36a which could stand for a 3 ton, but its the 030 number you want. It is a 2.5 ton unit, no question! 2x12 is 24+6=30,000 btus, a 21/2 ton unit. Hope that cleared it up for you.

### I have a Ruud Model # UACC-036JAS. Any idea on

Hi, yes the number you are showing me 036 indicates its a 3 ton unit. For every ton of cooling, you will have 12,000 btu's of cooling. 36 divided by 12=3 ton unit. Its showing me also its a Ruud Handler 2.0 ton which would be a Model# UACC-024JAS? If your mobel number is the one you gave me, UACC-036JAS, this is a 3 ton unit, absolutely no questions. I hope I have been of help to you. I am a licensed air conditioning / Refrigeration /Heating Contractor. Let me know if I have been of help.
Sincerely,
Shastalaker7
PS If this is a split system with the indoor air handler and condenser outdoors, both coils must be the same tonnage for it to work for you properly. You can't have a 2 ton indoor evaporator coil with a 3 ton condensing unit.

### What is the tonage on a 10aja3601

Hi, the tonnage of your unit is a 3 Ton unit. There are 12,000 btu's per ton of cooling, so your model number has a a36, so 3 x 12 = 36 which is 36 = 3 tons of cooling.
