It may be air whistling past the exhaust filter, which may need replaced. Try removing the filter to see if that could be where the noise is coming from.

I love my floor mate which I bought last year. Now it is making a funny sound and has a weird burning smell. I was told to take it to a repair shop but before spending the money I want to find out if this...

It may be the belt. Sometime the motor spins but the belt is not spinning with it. This causes the belt to heat-up and burn/melt. The burned rubber maybe what you're smelling and sometime make funny noise and hard to push the vacuum.

Dyson is making funny noises

That's the clutch. An extremely hard piece to replace. Your vacuum is pretty much a paper weight.

8910 is making a funny noise. maybe clogged?

Could be, but it could also be from the seals if they are old and need to be replaced. They are rubber strips (like used in some screens), and can make a horrible noise when they need to be replaced.

Panasonic MC-CL673 vacuum is not getting up to speed and smells

Even though the brush is spinning, you probably need to replace the belt2_bing.gif because it is stretched. It is probably slipping on the beater bar. This is causing the smell (burning rubber). I don't believe it is your motor. :-)

Kirby turns on with hose attachement but not with head attachment

Front of the unit, black switch that is pressed by this plastic protrusion from hose coupling has two parts. It is because ANY generation Kirby has speeds - HIGH for vacuuming with hose and LOW for using it with nozzle.
Looks like the switch went bad (Switch HERE)

We have instructions for replacing it too.
The "funny noise" with hose throws me off a bit though. Check if there is nothing in the hose (put a nickle through it).

Good Luck
