Did a hard reset by holding the power on button for over 30 seconds and it now finds the satellites. Traffic is still not working.

Even if you have the latest firmware 6.6, try reinstalling it and see if that helps.

The hand held unit will iluminate and I can move the telescope withe the up and down buttons but nothing comes up on the screen.

You mean you cannot find anything in the sky looking into the eyepiece.

READ my GOTO Tips on my profile page, also read the manual again. These must be Calibrated and TRAINED and the TIME, DATE, and SITE must be correct in the hand controller.

Also you must align them on two KNOWN stars once you setup outside and level the tripod.

Make sure you are not under any structure such as a car port that will block the signal. The unit must be able to see the sky to receive signals

No gps signal

If the unit hasn't been used ofr a while it sometimes looses information it needs to figure out the sattelites. So what you need to do is charge it up or have it on the carger and perform a hard reset. The unit will then download new information and be able to figure out where it is and then how to get 'there'. This can take up to an hour but usually about 5-10 minutes if it has a good view of the sky so it can see the sattelites.

This is a common thing with all gps recievers.

Machine does not acquire its GPS position. If it does it can take up to 45 mins to achive. Can I put an external antenna on it? The unit is used in an open boat, so has clear access to the sky, so should...

your antenna is probably original and obsolete see if you have a RayStar 120, if so, it is junk. The RayStar 125 is plug and play for you and sells around 300. Your GPS is a self contained receiver, that means it uses 12 V and output computer language. If you have no power to the seatalk antenna, you get nothing. If it is intermittent as you describe, 90% chanace it is the antenna, (mushroom or puck). 847-746-0100

I turn on my unti. I get a never-changing message that indicates ''LOCATING SATTELITES''?

This sounds like a reception problem in your unit. You will probably need to send to Garmin for repairs or replacement. Make sure you have a good clear view of the sky when attempting to locate.

Wont search for sattelites

Does your unit have an external aerial as shown in the pic, If so double check the connection from the aerial into back of the fishfinder, lube with water proof grease (Non-conductive)

You do not say whether it has worked before.

Also need to know where it is located on boat, it must have a view of sky overhead (If internal antennae)

Ext antennae must also be in view of sky, not under "solid" cover.

My eMap (version 2.75) stays for hours in 'searching the sky'

My eMap was doing the same thing. Try putting in fresh batteries and make sure you are in a good reception area. While turning the eMap on, hold the on button and the ESC button at the same time until the system is on. It will ask if you want to reset. I opted for yes. My eMap started working again!

Polaroid FLU-2632 channel searching

Often when using a Sky box, one doesn't use the channel tuning feature of the Polaroid HDTV. Often one connects the Sky box to a component video input, and the Sky box does the tuning.

I hope that helps.

Have you tried a Master Reset? It may help, but it WILL ERASE ALL OF YOUR FAVORITES. To do a Master Reset, turn the unit off. Press and hold the bottom right of the screen, then press and release the power button. Keep pressing the screen until the unit asks if you are sure you want to reset. Follow the prompts.
