Question about Sta Rite STA-RITE AIR FLOW SWITCH - 42001-0061S

1 Answer

No air flow

Service light in control housing blinks once indicating an airflow issue. Does anyone know what it could be. I was thinking blower motor but it spins freely.

Even if blower is running, it may not be creating enough pressure to close the air switch. If you have a manometer, you can tee into the air tubing to check the generated pressure. Make sure the air tubing isn't clogged, aswell as the heaters venting

Heater, ac, rear and front defroster not working. Dash vents no air. I hear it on. Top vent blow but just a little cold air. Controls for it not working.

I don't have an 08 instead I have an 06 and my manuals are for the 06. Though I would imagine that not much has changed for the HVAC system in 2 years.
So I looked up your problem in my 06 manuals..

Here is what it says.
  1. Turn on engine, select defrost, select maximum blower: Does sufficient air flow from the defroster outlets? You indicated NO: Go to 11: "Go to Air delivery improper"
  2. Now under Air Delivery Improper: Turn engine ON with Blower OFF: Is the blower off? You indicated YES
  3. Place blower motor control in each speed postion: Does blower motor operatate: You indicated YES
  4. Does the blower motor operate correctly for each speed position? You indicated YES (You didnt mention that it did not since its not what you were asking about)
  5. Is the HVAC control assembly inoperative in all positions? You indicated NO You mentioned that it worked in a few of them
  6. Test the ignition 1 voltage circuit of the HVAC controller for an open, for a high resistance or for a short to ground.
  7. Inspect for bad connections at the harness connector o the mode actuator.
  8. Inspect the mode door and any attaching linkage for any binding
  9. Inspect the ductwork for any debris that would prevent airflow through the duct work.
  10. Inspect for bad connections at the harness connector of the HVAC control assembly.
  11. Replace the mode actuator.
  12. Replace the HVAC control assembly

Heater not blowing hot air

IT could be one of several things: possible the blower fan motor is bad; or the valve that lets the hot water in from the engine to the heater core is not opening; or the door that lets the air flow past the heater core and onward to your vents is not opening. All these are controlled by your heater switch, via relays and vacuum lines. If the blower motor works well when you put power to it directly, but not when it is hooked to the car, a connection in the switch or a relay may be bad. if you get little or no effort from the blower motor when you hook it directly to a good battery, it's the blower motor itself gone bad. If you get airflow but not heat, it's the device which diverts the hot water into the heater core. and if its the door to let air flow over the heater core, it could be a relay, a vacuum hose or the switch.

AC Airflow is greatly restricted in all vents

Based on your description I would say you have a blend door that is sticking or the control motor is going bad. The blend doors control air flow.

Trouble shooting LED light. Three blinks..what does this mean?

Hello, that code states that the limit switch is open on the Furnace, a limit switch opens when airflow is not adequate. Reason for this are dirty air filter, dirt on blower wheel, blower motor not running at proper speed, or blower motor not running at all. Anything that restricts the airflow over the heat exchanger will cause this switch to open. Let me know what you find and I will be glad to assist you further.

I have a RUUD Silhouette II and every once in a while the house gets cold and I check my furnace and the Status Light blinks-pauses-blinks-pauses ect. It is only flashes once so it tells me ''One Hour Time...

You will need to reset the furnace and have it run thru a cycle (or try). After three attempts, it will blink another error code that may tell you more.

On a call for heat, the 24 volt thermostat sends a signal to the control module. The control module will indicate a call for heat with a light on the control either blinking or remain solid depending upon model. The inducer (exhaust) blower will purge all gasses from the furnace and pressurize a pressure switch. Once the pressure switch tells the module to continue, the electronic ignition will energize and send 120 volts to the igniter. The igniter will glow and you will be able to see it if viewed thru the small inspection port. Once the igniter gets hot enough, it sends a signal to the module opening up the gas valve (24 volts). Either a pilot will come on or the burner tube will ignite then spread the flame to all burners. Lastly a safety sensor will be looking for a certain temperature within a few seconds and the furnace will continue to operate and the room air blower will turn on in a minute or two.

What could go wrong? The unit will not run if there is no signal from the thermostat (bad thermostat or broken wire), the control module does not sense a signal from the thermostat (bad control), the inducer does not energize (bad motor), the pressure switch does not close (blocked vent piping, bad switch, plugged condensate hose), the igniter does not energize (bad control, bad igniter), the gas valve does not open or there is no gas (bad gas valve, broken wire, no gas), the pilot does not light (dirty pilot), the burner does not light (bad burner, plugged orifice, not enough combustion air), the flame does not spread to each burner (bad flame spreader, dirty flame spreader, more bad burners), the flame safety sensor does not detect flame (dirty or bad flame spreader, bad flame sensor, broken wire, bad control), or the room air blower does not energize (bad fan motor, bad control).

When the engine is cold, check the coolant level.

Make sure it's on max.

===

A coolant system should be flush every two years.

===

If you did a coolant flush recently then air pocket can be the cause of the un-even heating problem.

The DIY method is to drive you car onto a ramp or a steep hill.

Iet the engine cool off and top off the coolant tank.

Set MAX heat + MAX fan

Let the engine ran for 20 minutes wih the cap off and the trap air will escape from the coolant reserve tank,

Check coolant level and top off coolant when the engine cools down.

A shop will charge $75+ for this but using an air operated excavate tool!

A car with over 90K miles may experience linkage problem to the heater control valve.

The heater control valve (near the firewall) may be stick over time.

Open the hood and move the heater to max and min. Back and forth.

Clean and lube the linkage with WD-40 to free the heater control valve.

If it's a vacuum type heater control valve then cash for leaky vac. hoses.

=======
Move the fan switch back and forth to re-new the electrical conductors.

Pass a vacuum over the control panel to prevent dust build up behind the console.

Slow to dry cloths

Remove the vent from the back of the dryer and see what the temps are. The cycling (or operating) thermostat is on the blower housing and opens more than 100* lower than the 266 you are reading. That, combined with the long dry times indicates an airflow issue. Check your lint screen....fabric sheet and lint can combine to coat and restrict air flow through it. Also check down in the blower housing with the lint screen removed. You'll see lint build up by looking down the slot with a flashlight. If it's restricted, so is the blower wheel and the blower housing. Also make sure the flap, or lovers at the vent hood outside are opening fully. Remove any accumilation of lint from there.

The high limit control is just that........If you cycling thermostat has failed, or does not open because there is no airflow, the limit control opens as a safety. On a normally operating dryer, the high limit control will never open.

The neptune dryer is designed to move more air than a regular dryer due to the higher capacity load it get's from the neptune washer. That is the case with most front load laundry pairs.

I have the same problem with my windstar blower is fine but is coming cold air but no heat i dont know what to do can any one show me how to fix it thnx

First, feel the heater hoses going into the firewall under the hood. If they are hot, then you have hot engine coolant going into the heater core. If they are not hot, then you either have a bad thermostat or you are very low on engine coolant.

Next you need air flowing through the heater core so it can come out heated through your vents. If the iar is flowing somewhere else, your temp blend door is not moving because the bend door motor is bad or your temp knob on your heater controls is bad. The blend door motor is an electric motor.

------------------------------------------------
Air Flow Control
Air flow control is accomplished in the following manner:
  • Primary control is through the function selector knob , mounted on the heater function selector switch, which is part of the heater control .
  • The function selector knob has the following positions: OFF, PANEL, PANEL/FLOOR, FLOOR, FLOOR/DEFROST and DEFROST.
  • The heater function selector switch combines a vacuum selector valve with an internal electrical switch.
  • The vacuum selector valve directs source vacuum to various vacuum control motors (18A318) . Refer to the System Airflow Schematic and Vacuum Control Charts.
  • An internal single-pole electrical switch is also controlled by the selector. The switch controls the electrical supply to the heater blower motor switch (18578) .
  • The position of the function selector knob determines the manner in which the system will operate.
  • Each position of the function selector knob is detented for positive engagement.
Temperature Control
The temperature control operates in the following manner:
  • Temperature control of the heater system is determined by the position of the temperature control knob (between COOL-BLUE and WARM-RED) of the heater control .
  • This control knob is connected to a potentiometer mounted in the heater control . This potentiometer is electrically connected to the electric blend door actuator that operates the A/C air temperature control door.

e72a310.gif

  • Movement of the control knob from COOL (Blue) to WARM (Red) causes a corresponding movement on the air temperature control door and determines the temperature that the system will maintain.
System uses a reheat method to provide conditioned air to the passenger compartment.
  • All airflow from the blower motor (18527) passes through the A/C evaporator housing .
  • Temperature is then regulated by reheating a portion of the air and blending it with the remaining cool air to the desired temperature.
  • Temperature blending is varied by the air temperature control door, which regulates the amount of air that flows through and/or around the heater core (18476) , where it is then mixed and distributed.

It takes three cycles to dry clothes, andthere is heat?

The most likely cause is poor airflow. This may be due to a clogged lint screen (should be cleaned after each load) or a clogged vent. Run the dryer empty and feel the airflow from the vent outlet (where the vent exits the house). If there isn't a good strong flow of air, remove the duct where it attaches to the dryer and check for flow right at the dryer. If there still isn't good flow you may have a bad blower, but chances are the duct is clogged with lint. If it's the white plastic flexible duct or the corrugated metal kind you should replace it with solid 4-inch vent pipe. This will give the best airflow and the smooth walls won't promote lint buildup.

Not enough air flow coming from the vents on the second floor.

If you feel like increasing your blower motor speed you can do this. Go to the air handler take the cover off to expose the blower motor. You will see a circuit board that has the blower motor wires going to it. Using your flash light look at the board and locate the terminals that read Cool Heat Park ... Now the Cool terminal should have black colored wire going to that one. Now locate the Heat terminal if it has red going to it and maybe blue sitting on the park terminal then swap the two around, blue is like med speed on the blower. Where Red is low speed. This will increase the blower about 50 rpms. You can even read your blower motor and get the speeds more detailed. You have a big house your unit is I bet a 4 ton A/C and 125,000 btu furnace. Probably has 1600 rpm motor. This is one solution. You have a up flow model and when you open the furnace cabinet up you will be able to see the specs. on the furnace. Let me know how that goes ken here in Kansas
