SOURCE: I have a pride victory xl8. Problem - was running

All scooters have a protection system built in to prevent burning up the motor, and the user, should the scooter overheat. It sounds like yours overheated. If the temp. outside was warm to hot, and your weight is near the weight limit for the scooter, and you are taxing the motors over a hill, or unstable terrain, then the scooter goes into "limp home mode", or just enough to get you a bit aways, and then it will turn off. After a few minutes to cool off, it will go again, but shut down fairly quickly because it takes a spell to let the whole transaxle-motor assembly to get cool.

Check your weight, and anything else you may be carrying with you on the scooter. Check the terrain, and incline you are going against. Throttle down for all these occassions. If you overloaded the system at some point, then you may have overheated the brushes. Remove them (2) with a standard screwdriver and see if the copper coil is still flexible and springy. If not, replace it/them.

The damage may already be done, so it may need a new motor/transaxle assembly. An expensive proposition I'm afraid.

SOURCE: pride celebrity deluxe comfortcoach 1v problem-

Usually when a scooter dies, there is an event that preceded the dead state that caused the fault. What were you doing before it went dead?

The biggest culprit for scooters and power chairs is moisture. With a scooter, there are two components most susceptible. One is located inside the top of the tiller and it is an electonics board about 6"x4" in size. If you had the scooter out in the rain without protection over the tiller, water can encroach into this area and short the board. Or, a coke or coffee spill can short it. There's a fuse on the board and if it is blown, then likely the board is shot as the fuse merely keeps the tiller from going into a total meltdown in the event of a short. Boards run about $25.00 to $45.00 to replace. Inspect it and look for any signs of overheating or corrosive buil-up and see if the fuse has blown.

The second component is located under the shroud beneath the seat. It is a small metal box which is the power control module and it controls all of the operations of the scooter. It has several wires going into and coming out of it (on-board chargers for some scooters will only have one wire going in and one coming out, sometimes two). These boxes are water resistant, but are susceptible to damage if the scooter has been run through a puddle and a lot of water has splashed up onto it. These are several hundred dollars to replace, but first check all of the fuses coming off the batteries that will lead from the battery to this control box and insure that it isn't a blown fuse. These fuses generally don't blow unless the scooter was operated beyond its capabilities, like driving it in sand, mud or other unstable terrain that puts an enormous strain on the motor and pulling a lot of juice from the batteries. Finally, check all of the connections that clip together. Don't rely on a visual inspection, take them apart, and reconnect them all to insure a good, tight fit.

Hope this helps.

SOURCE: i have a pride celebrity dx sport that the battery

I suspect that the electromagnetic brake has seized. I have come across this a few times on some of the larger pride scooters, usually if they have got wet and been left for a while. They can normally be free'd off. First, loosen the left hand rear wheel nut (the one in the middle of the wheel). Put the scooter into freewheel and jack the rear wheels off the ground. Remove the left hand rear wheel and be carefull not to lose the hub key which locates between the axle and hub of the wheel. Unplug the wire that comes out of the brake, then remove the brake from the end of the motor. Before going any further, check to see if you can move the disk inside the brake (the disk is the black part that you can see on the inner side of the brake with the hexagon cut out). If you can move this disk at all, the brake is NOT seized. While at this stage, plug the brake connector wire back in , turn on the scooter and press the throttle lever. If the motor spins, you can discard the motor as being of any promblem. If the brake IS seized, it will need to be dis-assembled. Dis-assembling the brake usually requires the removal of 3 or 4 small allen headed bolts on the rear of the brake, followed by some spacers, small washers and a small ball bearing or two. Watch what comes off and in what order, and be carefull not to lose any parts. Free off the black fibre type disc from the metal plate that it is stuck too. This can be done using a small hammer and large flat bladed screwdriver taking care not to damage the disc. Lightly rub the metal plate with fine grade wet and dry to remove any rust or dirty deposits, then re-assemble the brake in the reverse order, and refit the rear wheel making sure you apply a small amount of grease to the axle shaft.
This should work for you but failing that, I think you will need a new brake assembly.
Hope I have been of some help to you.

SOURCE: what makes the speed pot go bad on a 3 wheel celebrity x scooter

Yup you gt a code seven failure code, speed pot malfunction . What pots typically do is that they oxidise. This pt is aa variable rersistor that opeates between 0 - 30k ohms. When tuning the pot it shoud ram up and down smoothly. To test for this
You may also need a VOM meter only $9
http://www.amazon.com/Mastech-YG188-Pocket-size-analog-multimeter/dp/B00064CH6A/ref=sr_1_8?s=hi&ie=UTF8&qid=1339024102&sr=1-8
Disconnect batteries from the scooter. Simply attach the multimeter to the pots terminals, select correct ohms scale and watch the needle. Th needle when turning the pot should movee gracefully up to 30k down to zero as the pot dial scooter speed increases. Faaailure is detected when the needle jumps around, the oxidation causes the pot to connect inteermitently. USE CRC CONTACT Cleaner to get the oxidation out of the pot. The potss are not sealed so there are little holes you can spray into. Use liberal of cleanner.

Flashing code 1, 3 speed pot fault

Usually turning the key off and removing it then re inserting the key and turning it back on without touching the paddle levers. If that doesn't fix it then the speed pot will need to be replaced.

Speed pot fault

Try using a contact cleaner in a spray form. Like a can of CRC Contact cleaner or Deoxit contact cleaners. Potentiometer [Pot] are not sealed so find a hole and spray into it. Use a liberal amount of cleaner. Work the pot while spraying.

You can test the pot by using a analog multimeter You will need a multimeter only $9
http://www.amazon.com/Mastech-YG188-Pocket-size-analog-multimeter/dp/B00064CH6A/ref=sr_1_8?s=hi&ie=UTF8&qid=1339024102&sr=1-8

Using the multimeter.gently turn the pot up and down the multimeter should read zero when the pot is turned fully clockwise. Now turn the pot fully counterclockwise. As you tern the pot the meter should smoothly rise to 30k ohms, The meter needle should not bounce or drop off, it should move smoothly at all times. If the meter bounces clean the pot again you will likely see improvement. I've had to clean pots a number of times before the pot is clean. Hope this helps.

I have a Lyra 4. The battery is fully charged. It was going well on the lowest setting but it doesn't move on that any more and I have to put it very high to get it to go. What is wrong?

Let me take a shot at this, batteries are fully charged ,and it wont move at all in the slow settings.I would check for looseness in your throttle ,make sure its responding correctly when you want to go forward and reverse .second i would check your speed knob make sure its not loss or coming off, i have dealt with many problems like this one in the past and the knob was just lose and needed tighten ,and if everything checks out you are more likely dealing with a bad speed pot, which would be that knob you turn your speed up with.that would cause you not to move in your slow settings.

good luck hope i was of some help.

Batteries are fully charged. Scooter goes at full speed for approx. 1 block, then will slow to 1/2 speed and back up to full then back to 1/2. We have new batteries, checked for voltage at end of run, one...

Based on your description you have a bad throttle potentiometer or speed potentiometer. Remove the covers of the front console and check the resistance throughout the range of both pots at the connector. It should be even throughout the range with no dead spots. The newer CTE throttle pot is more reliable than the older model Celebrity scooter with the 5K ohm potentiometer. I usually replace the throttle and speed pots as a pair since they are connected electrically in the console.
Load test the batteries while you are driving. Using your voltmeter that is still connected under the rear cover while you are driving, check to see if you get a voltage drop of more than 1 volt. Static testing of batteries only tells you that there is a full charge. It does not give you an indication of how the batteries perform under load.
If you have clean brushes, you can still have a large amount of conductive brush dust in the motor and armature. Blow out the dust with compressed air. Check the motor and brake with you meter. The motor coil resistance should be less than 1.5 ohms and the brake should read between 40 to 60 ohms. Hope this helps.
