Looks like the motor is having a hard time starting. Try changing the motor capacitor, it jump starts the motor. It is cylindrical in shape aluminum color, sometimes black or may even be plastic white. Also, if it is not a direct drive, inspect the drive belt it could be worn out.
So i assume it fills with water then just sits there? this would be a wash motor problem, It could be a blockage in the wash motor or an electrical issue. Some of the whirlpool models have a start capacitor on the motor which can fail and would stop the motor from starting. If you remove the lower front kick panel and look at the motor and if you see a white tube attached to the motor with 2 wires it is the capacitor which could be faulty. If there is no capacitor then it is most likely an internal motor failure which would require a new motor.
Check under the machine and see if the motor turns easily by hand. It could be the motor, or it could be the bearing. The switching off after a while implies that the motor is struggling against a heavier than normal force and trips because of overheating. Most likely the bearing/s is/are ceasing up.
Buzzing as in end cycle tone? That would indicate a stuck switch on the motor and freeing it would buy time until new motor could be installed. Low humm as in motor is stuck and cannot turn would require removing belt and see if motor is stuck, drum is stuck or something in exhaust fan holding it back. Eric
Make sure the vent is clear. Does the motor humm when it starts? If it humms then the motor is bad. Make sure the rollers are not stuck or that the blower has obstructions inside.
Im talking about general troubleshooting here. Usually with this size of motor 1Hp. Check if it have a capacitor, commonly if this humms the capacitor is faulty. It is a capacitor start motor.
Another fault could be stuck up. Or one of the winding has a short.
Hope it helps
First tilt this machine back and examine the belt assembly and then start the timer at spin and note the action. If you see one pulley **** and try to turn check to see if it is the motor. Then try it with the belt off. If the motor spins free let it for 2 minutes to ensure it is not failing. The worse case is the gearcase has failed and will need professional help.
