Get a kit off eBay. You need those washers mainly. If not it's going to be the same.

How do you fix the 2 light red ring of death?

That depends on cause.

1 The heatsink compound has seeped away from the
GPU and or CPU chip set. This will force the console
to over heat quickly 1 min or less.

Solution 1

Open the console remove the heatsinks for both chips
clean of the old heatsink compound and reapplie heatsink compound ( Articsilver5) and reassemble and test.

2 if solution 1 failed then the console will need to have the
chips reflowed and reclamp , or you can do what's called
and x clamp mod with screw and washer .This will probably
fix your console but it's a quick fix and doesn't last long.

If you have any further questions your welcome to ask.

Tip

To simplify what this guy is saying. I recommend getting new thermal compound...

This is one of the most common problems with Toshiba laptops we deal with.
Indications of laptop overheating problem:
  1. The keyboard and the bottom of your laptop are very hot when the laptop is working.
  2. The CPU fans are working all the time at maximum rotation speed and operate much louder than before.
  3. The laptop suddenly shuts down by itself without warning. When it just started, the laptop was shutting down after 1-2 hours and how it shuts down after 5-10 minutes of operation.
  4. The laptop works fine when it runs idle, but shuts down as soon as you start using any memory demanding applications (DVD player, image editing software, video editing software, etc.).

Solution:
If the CPU heatsink is not clogged with dust and lint completely, you can use canned air and just blow it inside the laptop through the openings on the bottom and on the sides. It’s nice as a precaution measure, but it might not work if your laptop already has a problem and the heatsink is completely clogged.
  1. Open the laptop case, so you can access the CPU fan and the heatsink. In some cases you can access the heatsink through the latch on the bottom of the laptop. Sometimes (for example Toshiba Satellite A135) you have to open the laptop case all the way down.
  2. Carefully disconnect the fan cables on the system board and remove the fan. If the fan makes unusual sound when it spins (grinding sound), I would recommend to replace the fan.
  3. Clean the fan and the heatsink with compressed air.
  4. I would also recommend removing old thermal grease from the CPU and applying new grease for better heat conductivity.

How do i get rid of the red ring virus on xbox 360

There are plenty of suggested fixes on the net, but whichever one u go for, make sure its NOT the Twoel trick.... this will cause more damage in the long run, altho it does solve the immediate problem. If you are tech savvy, the rrod repair is quite easy to fix, but involves stripping the xbox down to the motherboard, then removing the to x clamps on the reverse of the board, and lifting off the 2 heatsinks from the processors, thoroughly clean all traces of old thermal compound from the heatsinks and processors and apply new paste. then using one of the many fix kits available on ebay re-attach the heatsinks as per instruction in the kit, plug in all cables but do not connect av cable to tv. turn on xbox until such time that 2 red lights come on. this means the unit is overheating, but it needs to do this to help with the bond of the new paste to the heatsinks. once the lights have come on, just unplug the power cable directly from the back of the xbox...do Not use the button. and allow to cool for approx 30 mins. re-assemble the xbox and hey presto u should be up and running. Any probs email me directly!!!

My xbox 360 has a red ring around the power button.... how do i fix it????

If you are technically minded, this is very simple to fix, the hardest part is taking the consle apart.
there are many kits with self explanatory instruction available on the web, but try to find an all metal kit, ones with nylon washers only solve the problem in the short term.
once the case is opened, u need to remove the fan shroud and fan assembly, then remove the motherboard from the casing. turn the board upside down, and CAREFULLY!!! prise off the 2 silver x clamps from their locating lugs, the 2 processors/heatsinks can then be removed.
Clean all traces of thermal compound off the board and heatsinks using either white spirit or an alcho solution, if using w/spirit dry thoroughly.
apply new thermal compound, just enough to cover the processors on the board, and using the kit bought from ebay position the screws and washers and re-attach the heatsinks.
Now u need to plug the xbox into the mains, and attach the av cable, turn the xbox on, but dont reconnect the fans as u need the heatsinks to get hot and the console to overheat, this will take between 30 seconds to a coupe of mins, and when hot enough the console will show 2 red lights.... this is perfectly normal!!!!
once the 2 red lights appear, turn the console off by pullin the power cord out, do not use the on/off button. allow the console to cool for about half an hour. reassemble the xbox and hey presto u should now have green lights and the console fixed.

My xbox 360 won't work and i don't want to take it apart plz help me! (BTW it's the 2 red light thing)

Your console is overheating, if the lights come on after a while of game play, you may be able to cure this by making sure the console is well ventillated, not enclosed, and on a hard surface, not on a carpet or duvet,
If it goes to overheat quickly, the only cure will be to strip the console down and apply new heatsink compound to the CPU chip.
Thumbs up this solution if it helps, if not comment for further assistance.

I have the same problem my acer extensa 4420

I had a similar problem with my Acer Extensa 4420. After reviewing all the recommended solutions, I decided to open the case to see if I could see a disconnected cable or other easy explanation.

However, when I pulled the heatsink off the CPU and found that the heatsink compound had almost completely dried out. I cleaned the heatsink and applied new compound, then reinstalled the heatsink and put the computer back together.

It works great. Interestingly, this is the same problem that plagued the XBox 360 and the "red rings of death" failure. Just an option that is easier than pulling the entire case apart.

Ecofan only turns slowly

These fans can be rebuilt! Like many others, our fan died after being placed in the center of the stove top. I took the two halves of the fan body apart, and scraped the heat sink compound off either side of the power plate. I then applied CPU heat sink compound that can be found at any computer or electronics store liberally to either side, and put it back together. The fan spins like new, spread the word!

My xbox flashed a red light, and the screen goes black

I went with the eraser fix and it worked like a charm. Can anybody explain why using erasers changes things and makes the 360 work without the 3 red lights flashing? Just Curious!
