After trying 2 new cartridges and doing a cleaning, calibration, and nozzle maintenance x2---I took out my printer head, reinstalled it after wiping the head...and it worked perfectly (surprised me as I expected to have to buy a new head).

According to your problem first check your printer setup.
You may have to change the black ink cartridge. But first clean the head of the
printer and align the cartridges.
