Question about Canon EOS 40D Digital Camera

1 Answer

Split images Occasionally when I transfer photos taken with my Canon 40D to my computer they are broken in half or thirds and the images switched (the middle appears on the right side of the photo, the left appears in the middle, the bottom appears in the middle, etc.). When viewed on the camera they appear fine. This doesn't happen with all images, typically only one or two per 50. It doesn't seem to matter which program I use the transfer the images (Microsoft XP camera wizard vs. Canon software). I can provide examples of the split images if necessary. I would appreciate any input or suggestions you may have. Thanks!

Try restarting your computer or try it on a different computer, "Busy" usually means something is preventing your computer from reading the camera. If that does not help, try calling Radio shack or Staples.

EOS utility not tranfering all images on card

You are better off to simply remove the card and either use your built in card reader or obtain a external USB card reader and transfer your images that way. All you have to do is open 2 "My Computer" windows. Simply drag your photos from your card to your C: drive.

I have a Caonon 40D. I thought I was having a lens problem at first. However after using 2 other lenses I have found out it is my Camera. No matter how clear and crisp the image is in the view finder....

It is probably due to dust on the sensor, or sensor alignment not properly done. In both cases you have to take the camera to a Canon dealer for servicing.

The LCD screen on my 40D shows the image taken, or the live view image, but there are large areas of missing image. Almost like the picture has been laid on a black background then a large piece torn out...

If the Live View shows areas of total black, the LCD is probably faulty and needs to be taken to a Canon Dealer for repair/replacement. I believe the pictures are still okay on the computer in this case?

Can't transfer images from my canon 40d to

Try NOT connecting your camera to your computer.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program such as Picasa.

40D not communicating with EOS utility

open device manager, connect camera, it will be seen briefly with yellow triangle and exclamation mark. open it up and uninstall.
Disconnect camera and close windows down. Restart windows, connect camera and switch on, windows will then find it and install driver. Took me hours to figure this one out

USB broken on Canon 40D...

If the camera is still under warranty, make sure you send it to be fixed before the warranty runs out. When they fix this problem they will also clean and service your camera, so it's a good idea to get it fixed (under warranty). But there's no reason to worry about this affecting any other operation in your camera. I never use the cable to transfer photos - I always take the memory card out of the camera and transfer using a card reader.

Try getting a card reader, they are cheap. It sounds like the software is having a problem communicating.
