There are 2 possibilities:
1) Are there 2 knobs to control the oven? If so, they may be switched.
2) Depending on the thermostat used, it may be possible to put the knob on upside down.

Without a proper model number I would say you need to replace the element or the infinite switch for the element. Best off to call a reliable repair company such as Sears.

Hi - From what you have described the range could possibly be experiencing a faulty element/sensor or the communication to the element from the control board is now compromised. If you are referring to the left front element, the part number is 318178110/MSRP: $65.86. Right front element, part number 316224201/MSRP: $89.60.
