Question about Elna Sewing Machines

3 Answers

The needle threader does not go through the eye of the needle.

Then after I fiddle with it, it will go down, but the threader does not go through the eye of the needle. I have to push the needle to the right with my thumb while I bring the threader down. When I first got the machine it worked great twice....then no more. I am using the correct size needle for it to work.

Basically these needle threaders are a good idea but they are just a pain. I have had several machines with threaders and eventually they stop working. My advice? Just thread the old fashioned way . Save yourself a lot of grief.

Have you tried removing the needle and putting it back on to make sure it is seated correctly and tightly?

SOURCE: the needle threader has stopped working

Check you needle size. On my machine the needle threader does not work with the smaller needles, 9/65 and 11/75. The eye of the needle appears to be just short of the hook on the needle threader. I have no problems threading needles in larger sizes.
Good luck,

SOURCE: Broke the hook off the automatic needle threader

You can get a new (grey) threader inexpensively that pushes on the bottom of the threader shaft from a dealership. Easy to do it yourself or they can do it in 5 or 10 minutes. Try taking the old one off and looking at it. It pulls right off.

SOURCE: automatic needle threader on brother se-350

Hi - first, make sure that you raise the needle to as far up as it will go. When you thread the machine, make sure you pass the thread through each number along the path - there is a hook on the threader mechanism that is really easy to miss. It is always a good idea to refer to the book when you are having a problem.

You might also try changing the needle. The threader has a teeny hook that goes in to the eye of the needle from behind, grabs the thread, and pulls it back thru the eye of the needle.

The threader can go out of alignment. If you got the machine last fall, it should still be under warranty. You can call Brother and ask where you can take the machine for repair. Or, you can go to Brother's website and look for information that might be helpful.

Good luck,
Ginny

15000 Needle treader is a joke, does not work.I have had nothing but headaches with it from day one. I have had the machine for three years. Love everything else about the 15000!

Some needle threaders are not designed very well. Since I've had a machine without a threader for so many years, it does not irritate me so much to manually thread--although the threader is nice when there is one that works! To help with threading the needle, it helps if I lick my finger and swipe it across the back of the needle eye. The moisture attracts the thread into the eye, making it easier to thread. (Works on hand sewing needles too!) Another thing is to place the tip of thread above the needle eye where there is a groove in the needle, then push the thread down the groove and it should go right into the eye.

HOW TO ADJUST my needle threader on my Pfaff Creative Visions 5.5 sewing machine

If the tiny hook on the needle threader misses the eye of the needle, it needs a careful adjustment to align it. I do mine by using a magnifying lamp to aid viewing the mechanism, then holding the needle threader down level with the eye, gently manipulate the hook until it is able to move into the eye., usually a tiny amount either side. If it needs adjustment vertically, then it needs the small screw carefully undoing a little, until the threader can be moved slightly up, or down.

The needle threader on my Janome 6260 quit working. The needle is inserted correctly.

Is the threader broken or just not meeting the needle eye? If broken, it can most likely be repaired.

If the threader is not meeting the needle eye, adjust the needle height so the threader meets the eye and intercept the thread. I have a 60's machine with a threader that needs the needle height manually adjusted because the needle does not stop in any particular place. Usually, if I raise the needle to its highest, the threader will work.

The automatic threader wont pick up and thread needle. Can do manually but thats not easy?

to make manual threading of a needle easy buy a needle threader
it is a instrument that has a very fine piece of wire in a loop that you push through the eye of the needle , put the thread in that loop and pull the loop back out of the eye and the needle is threaded
available from most any shop that sells material , cotton , thread or sewing machine shops
cost --pack of 2 for $1.00 or there abouts

There's nothing wrong with the Threader, it's just that the Threader doesn't reach the back of the Needle!

Usually you have to manually move the needle up and down until its height matches the threader height. Newer machines have an automatic needle stop that generally matches the threader but most older machines need to be manually manipulated.

HINT: If you do need to manually thread your needle, lick your index finger and then rub the back of the needle's eye. Your thread will literally "leap" through the eye! This works for hand-sewing needles too!

Needle threader not threading

1. LOOK TO SEE IF YOU HAVE THE WIRE HOOK ON THE THREADER. THIS IS A VERY SMALL WIRE THAT GOES THROUGH THE EYE OF A NEEDLE. 2. IF IT IS MISSING THEN UNSNAP THE OLD ONE AND REPLACE IT. 3. CHECK TO ENSURE THE NEEDLE IS AT IT'S HIGHEST POINT. 4. LOOK CAREFULLY TO SEE WHERE THE WIRE HOOK IS GOING TO (TOO HIGH OR LOW). 5. ADJUST THE THREADER UP OR DOWN TO CAUSE THE WIRE THREADER TO GO THROUGH THE NEEDLE EYE. ADJUSTING IS DIFFERENT FOR EACH MACHINE BUT YOUR USER'S MANUAL SHOULD HAVE THIS. ALSO, YOU CAN USUALLY FIND THIS ON YOU TUBE.

Needle threader heads are actually easily replaced and should be replaced anyway every few years because they do wear-out. Get a magnifying glass and, having returned the needle to the top (use the foot controller, so that the machine stops it in the right place), pull the needle threader down until the head rotates towards the needle. Look with the magnifying glass to see if the small hooked part in the centre of the threader head (the light grey plastic part) goes through the eye of the needle - if not, you might be able to bend it VERY carefully so that it does - that should cure it. If the hook is a long way above or below the needle eye, dont try and bend it, the cam that rotates the threader has probably moved on the needle bar and will need adjustment by a service agent. If the hook is passing through the eye of the needle OK, but still not pulling the thread back through when you release it - i.e. the thread is just slipping-off, the hook has become rounded through normal wear and you'll have to replace the threader head. The threader head simply pulls off - you might need to carefully lever it off the round shaft. Replacing it is a matter of simply putting the new one on the shaft and pressing upwards firmly so that the grooves in the threader head go right up to the horizontal pin on the threader shaft.

Cant make the auto threader work on an elna 2007

Do you mean the auto needle threader?

Mine won't work on very small needle sizes so I resort to the old manual needle threader for these. Ditto for twin needles.

Otherwise its a case of pulling the auto threader down so the hook swings into the needle eye, then pulling the thread over the face of the needle and catching it into the hook, then release the threader so it pulls back through the needle eye, taking the thread with it.

The only other thing that springs to mind is "is the needle at the top position in its stich cycle so that the threader lines up with the needle eye?

hope these ideas help a little.

How do you align the needle threader on Husqvarna Quilt Designer II?

You need a torx #6 screw driver to loosen the screws on the back of the threader, (I use magnifying goggles to see the threader) then put the threader in the down postion and look to see and make sure the hook of the threader goes through the eye of the needle. Holding the threader in the down positon with the hook sticking through the eye of the needle, tighten the screws on the backside of the threader, Double check it (slowly) to be sure it didn't move while you tightened the screws.
