Raypak 2100 fault

Went to heat the spa today and didn't hear heat kick on. The display read CFH - call for heat. I reset everything, and it now displays SPK- spark. Any idea what's wrong and how to fix it?

Thanks for the offer, Steve, but I'm not sure I am comfortable working with gas! Any chance you are near the New Hope, PA area so I can hire you to do it for me???

Little outside my reach from Indiana. If you are handy I can get you through it. Before you give up look at your heater. If in the lower right side of the heater you can see a 5/16 hex screw located on a vertical piece of metal then you can change a pilot assy. You will need a 7/16 open end wrench to undo gas tubing going down to pilot assembly and a 5/16 nutdriver

  • Steve Slater Apr 16, 2014

Shut off gas supply line. Undo pilot tubing from gas valve ( 4" cubed silver box). Remove 5/16 hex screw from burner tray vertical support. Grab and firmly pull back on pilot bracket wiggling until free. The pilot assy should now be free. Remove the 5/16 hex nut holding pilot assy to bracket. Now remove pilot tubing from pilot assy with the 7/16 wrench. If it is stuck you may need a 1/2" box wrench to hold pilot assy. Once free it is just a matter of reversing steps. You will need to note, the gas orifice is in place before reattaching the pilot tubing to the new pilot assembly. When putting the pilot bracket back into place take note of the tab on the vertical metal frame of the burner tray. The hole in the pilot bracket will fit snugly onto this tab.

I have probably made this sound complicated but once you are in front of your heater doing the job I think it will all make sense. After all if you weren't up for this you wouldnt be on this web site, right? You can do it.

Thanks Steve! Since it dropped from 65 degrees out to a whopping 31 with snow flurries, I'm not going to jump on it today, this day off is going to be spent staying warm and cursing mother nature! But, with your instructions, I am going to attept this fix either Saturday or Sunday. I'll let you know how I fare! I appreciate the help - and vote of confidence :-)

Steve, I'll be attempting this fix as soon as I get the part. I'm looking on eBay now, and could use some direction. Should I search for the "pilot assembly"? I don't want to buy the wrong part and start this project off incorrectly. Thanks again for your help, I have your instructions printed out and I'm ready to jump in on the next nice day once I have the part.

CFH is a normal function prior to SPK.
Heater says SPK, but you do not hear the spark. Most likely the pilot assembly. Very common with this heater. You need to be comfortable working with gas to change it out but I can guide you through if you are. This is typically not an expensive service call for our company. Please let me know if you would like to proceed, it is a lot to write if not.

It sounds like your ignitor may be out. Everything else is good in the safety loop and the heater wants to fire. The last step in the process is the ignition of the main burner. Are you hearing a ticking sound? If not the spark is not being produced.

no ticking sound. any advice where to go from here? could it be because propane is low? order is on its way, but still have 35#

  • Steve Slater Apr 15, 2014

Not going to be a propane issue if there is no ticking sound but if the propane falls below 40% the heater will begin to soot from incomplete combustion and will shorten the life of the heater.

SOURCE: raypak pool heater piliot light on heat will not turn on

Make sure that gas control knob is set to ON (counterclockwise). Make sure that ON/OFF switch is ON. Check that temperature setting is high enough to call for heat. Make sure pool pump is running and water is flowing to unit.
If not above there is a diagnostic procedure on page 33 of manual at:

press the mode button until the display reads "off". Remove the four screws holding the control cover on. Swing panel down so that the back of the board is visible. Press the mode button until "RESfl" appear. Press and hold both "up" and "down" buttons for 5-7 seconds until three dashes appear (---). This resets the fault history and clears any stored faults.

SOURCE: Raypak 2100 pool heater won't heat, PRS and HL2 error codes.

Well, I replaced the pressure switch with no joy. I tried all 5 levels of pressure 1-5 and every wiring combination. Finally, I returned the new $70 pressure switch and took the 2 wires and tied them together (jumped them). Here's the only downside...If you run your pump in backwash, recirc, waste, or any mode that would cause water to bypass the heater it MUST BE OFF. Otherwise, let it ride. It's working great and I hope to go into October weather permitting.

What is CFH

CFH stands for "Call For Heat"
CFH means "Call for heat" and SPK means "Spark". They are status codes, not fault codes.
It basically means that the heater is turning on the heat mode and spark should appear shortly after the CFH code appears. At this point the heater should be igniting and the heater heating up.
If you are having a fault issue with the heater, please let us know if there is anything else that we can do for you!

CFH means "Call For Heat", and SPK is "Spark". It sounds like you are running out of gas.Propane tanks need to have 30% in the tank for a heater to run correctly, and after they are filled you must bleed the air out of the line.If you have Natural gas,the gas line may be too small to supply enough gas to keep it running. NOTE...gas pressure MUST be checked with the heater running.

Raypak 2100 digital display on start up goes through

There may be a buildup of carbon on your pilot or your gas pressure may be low. It is hard to say without more info on the heater, gas line size and meter size. Depending on where you live it could also be something like spider webs in your gas orfaces. These will cause all to fire normally but not be consistant enough to read fire back to the ignition control. A small piece of bent wire into the orfaces will help to clear this up. As it is not a heater related problem it will not show a ready made answer on the display. Hope this helps, let me know.
