P err when turning on camera 950 coolpix

When turning on 950 coolpix I get a "P err" message. No other letters or words. What to do?

  • Patricia Apr 14, 2014

Just turned it on again and now it says ONLY "err". It does NOT even spell out error.

Hi Patricia,
http://cdn-10.nikon-cdn.com/pdf/manuals/coolpix/cp950rm.pdf
The link is to the manual for your camera in case you lost yours. I checked the error messages listed and there is nothing shown. However, your camera has three exposure modes (see page 18 in the manual). You will notice that the Program Mode is identified as the "P" mode as it is on all digital cameras. The message may be telling you that there is something wrong with that mode of operation. For an experiment, change your camera's exposure mode to A or S and see if it functions correctly. If that solves the problem your camera will be usable. If it does not, I would normally recommend that you send it to Nikon for service, however you have a very old obsolete model and it will probably cost you more to have it repaired then it will to buy a new camera. The prices have come way down for allot better equipment since you bought your 950. Good luck.

Sounds like you have been hacked. You should change your pass word and if you had a question. Change it as well. When you change your password use some capital letters as well as small case letters and put some numbers in as well. do not use common words as hackers can figure them out as well.

Error 99 is my problem... any ideas on a fix?

This may help you, it is from Canon.

Thank you for contacting Canon product support. I'm sorry to hear that
your EOS is displaying an "ERR 99" message.

To isolate the cause of the issue, we suggest that you do the
following:

1. Turn off the camera.
2. Remove the lens, battery, and CF card.
3. Allow the camera to sit without power for approximately 20 minutes.
4. Insert a fully charged battery, and turn on the camera.

Does the "ERR 99" message appear? If it does, then the camera should
be serviced. If it does not, then please proceed to the next set of
steps:

1. Turn off the camera.
2. Insert the CF card.
3. Turn on the camera.
4. Format the CF card in the camera.

Does the "ERR 99" message appear? If so, then the CF card is the most
likely source of the issue. Try using a different card.

If the message does not appear, please complete the following steps:

1. Turn off the camera.
2. Clean the lens contacts by gently rubbing them with a pencil eraser
or soft cloth. Be careful that you do not let any debris fall into the
camera body.
3. Reattach your lens.
4. Turn on the camera.

If the "ERR 99" message only appears when one particular lens is
attached, then that lens should be examined by a service technician.

If you see the "ERR 99" with a different Canon lens attached, then the
camera should be serviced.

For factory service, forward your digital camera (remove the CF card
and battery) properly packaged and insured, with a letter describing the
difficulties. Be sure to include your name, address, telephone number,
and proof of warranty (if applicable). Send to the Canon Factory
Service Center at the following address:

Canon Factory Service Center
100 Jamesburg Road
Jamesburg, NJ 08831
Tel.# (732)521-7007

or

Canon Factory Service Center
15955 Alton Parkway
Irvine, CA 92618
Tel.# (949) 753-4200

Your equipment will be examined and you will be advised of the
findings.
The length of time for the repair will be dependent upon the nature of
the repair and availability of parts if needed. If the repair entails
something that is not covered in warranty you will be sent a written
estimate to the address that you have provided.

Thank you for choosing Canon.

Sincerely,

xxxx

Camera turns off in "play" mode

The problem probably is not the camera but the memory card. It 'happened to me, try replacing the memory card or clean with degreaser spray the pins on the card and, if you can, clean the contacts inside the camera (with caution).

Err 99 appears after every click for canon eos 30 D

Err 99, but lens-to-body problems are common- thought error 99 is a bit of a catch all- generally a lens and body conflict. And also Err 99 means that something wrong happened, but then it cleared out before it could be further determined.
Here is the blurb from canon to try:

Nikon Err flashing

I am having the same problem with my coolpix for the second time. The 1st time, I sent it back to Nikon and had it fixed under waranty. This time, Warranty has expired, Nikon asked $260 for repair. That is ridiculous, I could buy myself a new camera. There must be a flaw in the design because I have heard of that problem before. I have owned 5 Nikons but am seriously thinking about switching to Canon since Nikon is having difficulty with competition, and that reflects on customer services. Suggestion: Buy a new camera is what it is meant to be.
