How can we purchase a gear box chain for a Wolseley Merry Tiller, Serial No. T105738?

the chain will be standard construction and can be obtained from any power transmission retailer such as consolidated bearings (CBC) , bearing services or any other bearing retailer
all you will need is the pitch and width of the chain or the old chain as a sample
the pitch is the length of the link and comes in two variations (metric and sae)
one thing to be careful of is the wear of the sprocket teeth.
worn sprockets and new chain will give problems as the amount of wear on the teeth alter the pitch and that will make the chain tend to ride up on the teeth and jump
you may find that sprockets will also be available from the chain supplier

Mantis tiller repair drive unit

you will have to tear down the unit and check it for stripped out gears, chains and sprockets.you may have to change out the unit as a whole assembly.i don't recomend putting a new chain on a worn sprocket as it will wear out the chain quickly. hope this helps.

I have an old snowblower (ca. 1980's?) that runs like a top - the only problem is that the auger drive chain pops off the rear (smaller) sprocket in heavy snow, no matter how tightly (or loosely)

First remove the chain--- lay it flat on the floor --streched lengthwaze . grab either end and pull out and push back--- if chains length moves more than a quarter of a inch ---replace the chain. Next inspect the sprokets, if they are worn inward on the side they will let the chain drop on too far making the chain jump and rattel as it runs and this will throw the chain. Next inspect allignment of each spoket to the next sprokets with belt drive the belt will flex and this is not critical with chain drive this will load one side of each spoket causing the chain to jump off.

I have a MTD yard machine rear tine tiller. Goes forward and reverse but tines wont rotate. How do I fix?

You will have to get into the gearbox. It isn't too hard but is time consuming. Sounds like the drive for the tiller has broken. Could just be the chain in the gearbox for the tiller drive.

Tiller Blades not working

Eric,
I don't have any breakdown any more, but I believe on this tiller the chain box is bolted together with a 1,000 bolts ( well it seems like that many). remove the fender (Shield) and then you can start taking the bolts out of the cover casing of the chain cover. I have found more broke chains than broken gears..
If this helped, please rate this answer.
