Upgrade firmware on NETGEAR router. Many a times, it is required that you upgrade the firmware on your NETGEAR for it to function properly and be equipped with the latest updates and feature offered by NETGEAR.
I have listed the specific steps which are required to upgrade firmware on most of the NETGEAR
A. Open the router page using the following way:
1. Connect a computer to the router using any one of the 4 available ports. 2. Open the browser(Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox). 3. Access the router, usually with http://192.168.1.1 or http://192.168.0.1 or http://www.routerlogin.com. 4. Login to the router with the Username as "admin" and Password as "password" (please note that the username and password is case sensitive. In case you have changed the password for router login then you need to use that one).
B. Visit the following link to download the latest firmware.
Type the model make of your NETGEAR router and it will show you the download page for that specific product.
C. Please follow the steps to upload the firmware of the router:
1. Open the router page using the steps as mentioned under step A. 2. Under Maintenance, click router Upgrade. 3. Click Browse and locate the upgrade file. 4. Click Upload. 5. Wait for the router to reboot. 6. Click on 'Logout' (at the bottom of the list) from left menu.
It is recommended that you reset and then reconfigure your router for the firmware to upload properly.
NOTE: Please upgrade the firmware on a computer connected wired to your router. Upgrading firmware on a wireless computer may cause your router to malfunction and can lead your router to be in an unusable state.
These steps will succesfully allow you to upgrade firmware on your NETGEAR router.
Download the firmware, over a "wired" connection from your computer to your D-Link. Login to the router's built-in web-interface, and lick the "update firmware" link. Point to the downloaded firmware, and do the update.
Hi lets we tried to Upgrade your firmware version.
Updating your Routers Firmware The following steps will show you how to update your routers firmware using its web interface.
You do not need to be connected to the Internet as this interface is built into the router itself.
Locate and download the firmware file from the Belkin support site. (Type in your part number in the search box in the top right and look for "Firmware" in the title)
Save the file to a location on your computer where you can get to it easily, such as your desktop. Connect the computer to one of the four gray ports on the back of the router.
Open a web browser on the computer.
In the address bar of the web browser, type http://192.168.2.1 and press Enter on your keyboard. Click Login in the upper right-hand corner of the page. The router does not ship with a password, so just click Submit.
Click on "Firmware Update" toward the bottom of the left-hand menu. Click the Browse button toward the middle of the screen to search for the file you saved previously.
Select the firmware file by left-clicking on it and then click the Open button in the lower right corner of the window. This will take you back into the router's interface.
Click the Update button.
A prompt asking, "Are you sure you want to continue with upgrading?" will appear. Click OK. A second prompt will open telling you the router will not respond during the upgrade and warning you not to remove the power supply to the router. Click OK once more. Congratulations. The firmware has been updated successfully
Are you able to login to the router? If you can reset the router to factory defaults..If you can't login to the router...Is there an external reset button on the router you could try to reset. with a paperclip? Otherwise, I had this happen on a linksys router/switch. New router time. You should just return it where you purchased the product. There was already something seemingly going wrong if it was rebooting. 3 weeks? just return it. don't even mention the firmware update.
Here is the site info for 3com:
OfficeConnect - Firmware upgrade fails with incorrect user interface image

Firmware upgrade fails
Problem: Error when upgrading firmware
Problem: Incorrect firmware
Problem: Wrong firmware
Cause: The downloaded .exe has not been extracted
The downloaded .exe needs to be extracted by double clicking on it.
When performing the firmware update use the extracted files that were obtained from the "exe" file.
e.g You will obtain a "bin" or "dlf" type of file which is the firmware required for your upgrade.
Let me know what happens.
Before doing the firmware upgrade, write down all the configuration settings made by you in the router.
To upgrade the firmware, login to the router's web interface -> enter the password (smcadmin) -> click on login -> tools -> firmware upgrade -> click on browse -> browse to the location of the upgrade file -> click on 'Begin Upgrade' button -> you will be prompted to confirm the upgrade.
