Question about Yamaha DSP-A3090 7-Channel Amplifier
I have a Yamaha DSP-A3090 my problem is the sound goes in and out for about 30 to 45 seconds on must of the channels also when sound goes out the digital display flickers I brought this unit in 1996 new
and yamaha do not make parts for this unit anymore please help.
Your right on the money. I de-soldered the switch removed and cleaned out the contacts with contact cleaner from Radio Shack and some Q-tips. It now works perfectly. It also corrected the problem of searching for the selected input with the remote control. They no longer make the switch so this is your only other option.
It is not that difficult to remove the switch. The ribbon wiring just pulls out to get access to switch and board.
Then de-solder the switch off the board. You can then remove the switch and take the contacts apart. Just mark the position of the rotary contacts so you can put it back in the same position.

Guys.... very sorry but you all have a problem with your input switch. this is a common problem with yamaha designed mechanical switches. It was later updated about after a year because the original did not last long enough past the warranty period, the contacts were replaced with gold plating. But by this time i guess it must be really hard to find a replacement. more than 10 years now, must be really phased out.
it can be cleaned by contact cleaners, those that does not leave any liquid residue and then blow dry and will probably work for a short period only and will go back to abnormal operations. symptoms is not only intermitent sound but switch will sometimes turn itself left-right.
have worked with Yamaha service Al Khobar Saudi A.

Sounds like a cold solder joint around the imput to the power amp stage on the board. If you can get to the board take a bright lamp and a magnifying glass to chek for solder joints that are frosty looking .If so heat them up and dab solder to make them shiny.
