You may have a boot sector virus. At my bench I would remove your hard drive and install it on one of my towers and run a virus scan on your hard drive. Recovery from a boot sector virus is very difficult using tools found in Hiren's Boot disc, a cdrom that contain various programs to recover a hard drive.

Lastly, you may simply have lost the boot strap loader (even though this doesn't make any sense if you have used your recovery CD and recovery partition with success. If you boot and hear a beep, press F8 repeatedly immediately after the beep and you'll receive the recovery bootup option screen, choose Safe Mode first and see if that works, if not choose last know good configuration and otherwise if offerred choose use System Restore.

If all this fails you as a user you need service from a professional.

Hope this has helped or fixed ya.

SOURCE: acer 5520 notebook startup issues

You are missing the file NTLDR.exe and NTKRNL.exe. NTLDR is the first file your computer sees when it is booting up and it brings up other files to get your computer started then it turns it over to Windows file called NTKTRNL which actually brings up the Windows operating system. The only wayto fix is to find a Windows disc and copy them over to three folders that you have either win32, windows or winnt. Copy to all three if you see all three buy only one of those starts your system and it seems like it's win32 based on your error, folder under your C: drive. That will solve your problem and your computer will boot up normally.

Gateway sx2110 windows 8 formated drive c. now it will not take cds or usb to reinstal. says no boot cds or bad disk. keeps revolving to checking pc and fixing

You might need to go in to BIOS setup and change the boot order to boot from CD/DVD before the hard disk. Same thing for booting from USB. If the boot order is set to the hard disk first and it does not find a bootable partition then that's the error you would get and it might not get past that. I think F2 will let you access that on a Gateway. This is a link to to the Gateway recovery page and it has lots of good info on it.

Gateway NE56R28u

The Windows 8 Gateway laptop it shows the Gatewy logo but underneath the logo it says "Preparing automatic repair"
Then it goes to a blue screen that says "Your PC needs to be repaired A required device isn't connected or can't be accessed . Error code: 0xc0000185 you'll need to use the recovery tools on your installation media" .
You need to create a Windows 8 boot USB on another Windows 8 machine.

Follow the steps below to create a Windows 8 Recovery Drive:
On someone elses windows 8 machine! Does not store personal details.
Difficulty: Easy
Items Required: A flash drive, empty or that you're okay with erasing, with at least 500 MB of capacity
Time Required: Creating a Recovery Drive in Windows 8 should take under 10 minutes.
Applies To: You can create a Recovery Drive this way in any edition of Windows 8 or Windows 8.1.
Here's How:
1.Open the Windows 8 Control Panel. Windows 8 includes a tool to create a Recovery Drive and it's most easily accessible from the Control Panel.
2.Tap or click on the System and Security link.
Note: You won't see System and Security if your Control Panel view is set to Large icons or Small icons. In your case, just tap or click on Recovery and then move on to Step 5.
3.In the System and Security window, tap or click on the Action Center link at the top.
4.In the Action Center window, tap or click on Recovery, located at the bottom of the window.
5.In the Recovery window, tap or click on the Create a recovery drive link.
Note: Tap or click Yes if you're prompted with a User Account Control question about the Recovery Media Creator program.
You should now see the Recovery Drive window.
6.Connect the flash drive that you plan on using as the Windows 8 Recovery Drive, assuming it's not already connected.
You should also disconnect any other external drives, if only to avoid confusion in later steps.
7.Check the Copy the recovery partition from the PC to the recovery drive checkbox if it's available.
Note: This option is usually available on computers that had Windows 8 preinstalled when purchased. If you installed Windows 8 yourself then this option probably isn't available which likely isn't an issue since you probably still have the original Windows 8 disc, ISO image, or flash drive that you used when you installed Windows 8.

8.Tap or click on the Next button.
9.Wait while Recovery Drive Creator searches for drives available to be used as a Recovery Drive.
10.On the Select the USB flash drive screen, choose the drive letter that corresponds to the flash drive you want to use as a Windows 8 Recovery Drive.
Note: If no flash drive is found, but you do have an optical drive, you'll see a Create a system repair disc with a CD or DVD instead link at the bottom of the window. Touch or click on that if you'd like to complete that process, which I explain for Windows 7 here. That tutorial applies perfectly to Windows 8 as well so long as you start it at Step 3.

11.Tap or click on the Next button.
12.Tap or click on the Create button to begin the Recovery Drive creation process.
Important: Please take note of the warning on this screen: Everything on the drive will be deleted. If you have any personal files on this drive, make sure you've backed up the files.

13.Wait while Windows 8 creates the Recovery Drive, which involves formatting the flash drive and then copying the necessary files to it.
Depending on your choice in Step 7 above, this process could take anywhere from a few to several minutes.
14.When the Recovery Drive creation process is complete, you'll see a The recovery drive is ready message.
Tap or click on the Finish button.
Important: You're not done yet! The most important two steps are yet to come.
15.Label the flash drive. Something like Windows 8 Recovery Drive should make pretty obvious what this drive is for.
You should be able to use this to boot your Windows 8 PC, using the system restore partition on your pc.

How do you remove the recovery partition in windows 7

To remove the partition, you can use a tool called GParted. GParted can be downloaded and booted to and you can remove the partition using that tool. I will warn you that this is an advanced tool and could potentially corrupt data. Backup important files before proceeding.

Also if you have an OEM Windows 7 disk, you can boot to that and install Windows from scratch. When it boots, it will give you option to change the partition table on the drive which means you can remove it. This process will completely wipe your system and the partition, leaving you with a clean windows install. Always backup important files before proceeding.

Also know that the recovery partition is put there for a reason! Manufacturers create recovery partitions to include factory restore files. If you wipe out the recovery partition and do not have backup factory recovery disks, you will have no way to restore your PC to factory specs. You can still restore it from an OEM windows disk, it just won't be loaded with the factory bloatware...which isn't necessarily a bad thing!

Can I dl or burn to disc the factory reset for my gateway nv5105u laptop? I have lost that CD

If you have lost the CD you can try to do a factory reset from the recovery partition. Make sure you haven't formatted or deleted any partition in the computer since your purchase.

Using the Recovery Partition to perform Recovery.

First turn off your computer
Turn on the system and keep tapping the F11 key
system will boot into recovery partition. Follow the instructions below:

  1. Boot into Gateway System Recovery - Press F11 to Start Recovery.
  2. On the System Recovery Menu screen, press the ALT+D keys.
  3. At the command prompt, type: D: and then press ENTER.
  4. At the D:\ prompt, type: CD Windows\i386 and then press ENTER.
  5. At the C:\Windows\I386 prompt, type: dir filename.* and then press ENTER.
  6. Verify if the file name has an underscore ( _ ) in the extension. Example: appwiz.cp_. If the file has an underscore, it has to be expanded. If it does not have an underscore, the file can be copied without expansion.
  7. If file has an underscore, expand the file to the destination. At the command prompt, type: Expand filename.**_ C:\Destination. Example: Expand appwiz.cp_ C:\Windows\System32
  8. If file does not have an underscore, copy the file to the destination. At the command prompt, type: Copy filename C:\Destination. Example: Copy atmadm C:\Windows\System32
  9. At the command prompt, type: Exit.
  10. Once back at the menu, click Quit. The computer restarts.
It should be reset to Factory settings.
