Hi,

You have a ground short to the element, so either the element is broken and touching the case or you and a wire touching ground around the element. Either way unplug this unit and check for a short wire from the back of the unit. Safety first!!

I'm inclined to think that the problem is in the electronics, in the circuit board, since it's acting so oddly. The timer dial shouldn't allow the heating element to energize when the door is open.

If the thermal fuse is blown, you should NOT get heat.

First of all, check the defrost element, you can do this by test lead, Active to one end and Neutral to the other end of the element leads, the element should get hot if its ok, if not, replace it, to check the timer, locate the clock advance dial, note its position by way of marker pen, allow the unit to run for 3-6 hrs and check position regulary of the dial, it should advance clockwise1/4 of a turn every 3 hrs, if that runs ok then its the thermo fuse.
Anymore help, contact me at wgheaven@yahoo.com.au

Can you tell me the order in which each componet of a gas furnace comes on to start the furance?

Yes there is a sequence:
0:00 Dial for fan/limit switch is at 70 deg position. Furnace is cold. I turn T-stat to 80 deg to start furnace.
1:00 Burner comes on and dial begins to move slowly up.
2:30 Dial at 140 deg and fan motor comes on. Dial never goes above 150 deg.
3:00 Burner turns off. Dial slowly moves back towards 90 deg.
4:45 Burner turns on and dial is at 110 deg.
4:50 Fan turns off with dial still at 110 deg.
5:30 Burner off. Dial at 120 deg.
6:15 Fan on. Dial at 140 deg. Burner is still off.
7:00 Burner on. Dial at 120 deg.
7:40 Burner off. Dial still at 120 deg.
8:30 Fan off with dial at 110 deg., and it quickly snaps back to the 80 deg. position.
8:30 plus, cycle continues.....

Kenmore dryer, heat element ALWAYS on

Good day,
Sounds as if the element inside the canister has shorted to the canister body. You will have to remove the element to check it. I'll include a tutorial on how.
If that doesn't resolve the issue, please reply back.. Whirlpool makes Kenmore dryers.

Kenmore dryer 110-86094110 wont heat. Heating

Hi, Check all the thernostats and the thermal fuse for continuity. They should all show a closed circuit. If any of them are open, it will need replaced. It is usuallly the thermostat on the top side of the element housing.
I hope this helps you. If I can assist you further, please let me know.

Motor does not turn

if coils is heating are you sure motor isn't running or just the drum not turning ? if drum not turning suspect belt ..if motor not running but element still heating suspect element is contacting outer case ..with coil touching case 110 volts is present even without motor turning if timer is turned to heat position element will not heat to capacity but will get hot enough to eventually blow element fuse

Heating Element

your dryer is a 220 plug check the circuit breaker first
one 110 runs the heating element and the other 110 runs motor and dials
this is usually the cause of dryer malfunctions
heating elements are simple big mesh of curled metal wire like a toaster but more of it
it would take alot to knock out the heating element
check the dials too these could be sticking or worn dials you dont have to run dryer to check dials
