Boot the windows installation media and go to the repair section of the installation media and select command prompt.
run these commands individually one after the other:

diskpart
select disk 0
clean
create partition primary
format fs=ntfs quick
active
assign
exit

once you have exited the diskpart service you can restart the installation process from the installation media.

Beware... If the hard drive you are formatting to NTFS currently has an existing file system or other OS loaded onto it then that information will be deleted (most likely irreversibly. Since you have a GPT disk at the moment that tells me that you most likely have Windows 8 installed on that particular device. Windows 7 does not install on every device that has Windows 8 preloaded. You may also have to go into the BIOS and disable the security keys associated with that drive and OS.

*Proceed at your own risk and I do not accept any liability from these or any other tips provided in this or any other posts. All computer repairs dealing with DATA are and can be inherently risky if you are not well enough trained to do it properly*

How do I install windows 7 after a fatal crash?

Hi Charles,

You will need to access your systems bios. But in order to do so you will first need to disconnect the drive.

Then when you restart, you should see an option to enter the bios (usually F2 for ACERs)

Within the settings, you will be looking for storage configuration or perhaps boot device options. When you find "UEFI" option, change it to "legacy". Then, while you're there, be sure to change your first boot device to CD/DVD ROM. (Assuming that is the install disc you are using). Save settings and reboot.

Should be good to go with a typical Win7 install upon boot but drop a note if not.

How to format the hard disk ? here are the ways

what is hard disk? hardisk is an internal storage device by which we can store the data and also get back the data when we needed. hardisk is like a grama phone. you can create a partition on it also. so here are some tips how to format your hard disk. 1) plug in your hardisk by a external cable and wait for while to install the drivers . and then just double click on my computer and right click on the drive letter which you want to format and then hit format. now you have a option there select ntfs and defail and you have one more option called perfome quick format . if you click on this the formating will done quickly . and then start. done. <br /> 2) right click on my computer goto manage goto disk management and there you can see the drive letter just right click on it and format it . you can also remove the partion or create partion from there. <br /> 3) insert the xp boot disk and follow the instrucktion and after that you will get an option to select drive . just click on it and hit format . you have two types of formating ( quick) and full. <br /> 4) insert the win98 boot disk or insert hiren's boot disk and then go to dos ( for hiren boot disk only) after you completly boot from cd rom then you have an A:\ drive . this is called RAM drive. just write the command FDISK and hit enter and then Y and hit enter and then 4 to display partion. you can create a new partion from here also. after making any kind of changes you have to restart the pc . after restarting A:\ will appear. write down the command FORMAT C:\ and hit enter and Y thats it. <br /> there are many ways to format your drives. there are lots software also available in the market to format it. but the best way is 4) because it do the slow formating and also recover the allocation unit.

How can i format my hard drive if i right click the volume in the dism management it says delete volum?

a volume will be a partion on the drive, so you may have 2-3 on one drive. I'd just got to MY COMPUTER(AKA Explorer) and look for the drive letter which you wish to format, right click that drive and select format. This should let you format from here, if it takes you to the disk manager then simply delete any volumes/partions on that drive then format, you may need to choose what file system to use eg. FAT32, NTFS. I'd suggest NTFS which is most common for large drives.

I can not boot windows 7

Try this - but it will delete all partitions and data on the hard drive:

At the first screen, hit <SHIFT>+<F10>. At the elevated command prompt type:
diskpart
list disk
select disk 0
clean

Can i use a 3tb hard drive on acer z5610 running windows 7

The simplest way would be to reformat as NTFS. Use the advance options to delete and re-create partions.

GPT requires EFI and there is some debate whether Win 7 can be installed. I have not tested yet and quite frankly I would not waste the time and effort. Your hard drive and partition size is well within requirements. Good Luck

Dell sold me on a partition for my hard drive, but now the C-drive is full and D-drive is virtually empty. How can I increase the size of C at the expense of D?

The only way to adjust the size of a partition is to reformat the hard drive. You might be able to move some files and programs from C to D to free up some space on C, but that's pretty much your only choice.

I can't make format, partions or install windows.

Hi shlmughni,

If you're trying to format this drive, and you have nothing on it you want, then I would suggest that you use a windows 98 boot disk HERE. And first thing you need to do is load dos by putting the floppy disk in your drive A: after you create it from that site of course. Then allow dos to boot up. I'd opt for the allow cd rom option when it asks. After you get a dos prompt A: type in fdisk. Go to the display partions section and see what your drive is partioned as? Once you find that out, I'd delete the partion from the main menu choice delete partion. After that create a new partion from the main menu. Creating a new Dos partion will allow you to choose the size of the partion you want, then after that it will create your new Dos partion. When that's done, exit fdisk, and go to the A: prompt and type in format c: This will format the drive all over again, and give you a clean fresh starting point in which you install your OS.

Good Luck

I Have tried To Install Windows Vista on my pc which was on it before. The installation gets all the way to the completing part then just restarts and then has the screen your computer was not properly...

OK ya got a problem... here is what to do... boot up on the DVD then get to the part where ya choosing ya Drive Etc, and FORMAT the entire drive/partition ... you will loose any/all data at this stage... after ya format ya drive... NTFS.. Then install vista...

If that will not work get a formatting program from the Drives manufacturer, or Partition Magic, or the like, and boot up on it CD/DVD, Floppy, whatever and then Format the Drive... NTFS Then install Vista...

Not able to install linux

My guess is that when installing XP the option to format using NTFS was accepted. You should get a (Windows 98) DOS start floppy/CD and re-partion and format the drive before booting Linux install from CD/DVD
