Sounds like your hoses are all mixed up on your filter. The filter valve should have labels telling where the hose from the pump to the filter goes, then the filter to the pool.

What setting do I putmy pump on to vacuum sand out of my pool. I have the sandman 22"?

I'm not familiar with that particular brand, but if you want to get sand out of your pool you should first make sure you're ready to vacuum (with the plate firmly in the skimmer box and connected to your hose and then to your pole with the vacuum head), then turn the multi-port valve (MPV) to 'waste'. If your equipment is below the water line then water may start to come out your waste line - not a drama. Next, just turn the pump on and you will be vacuuming sand straight through the pump and out to wherever your waste line goes.

Be careful to ensure that you don't let the waterline in the pool get below the level of the skimmer box, because if you start to suck air you increase the likelihood of damaging your pump. A good idea is to top up the pool as much as you can with a hose before you start vacuuming, and then top it up again as necessary as your going along.

If you do need to top up the pool, be sure to get your water tested as soon as you can afterward, then top it up with whatever chemicals you may need.

Return port of the intex pump is sucking in water at the top part of the nozzle

If the debris that is getting pulled in is floating, lower the inlet to about 3 to 6 inches under the surface of the water.

I just cleaned out my Pentair FSN filter as I hve done several times before. I replaced the internal air bleed assembly from the factory piece (broken filter piece) to one with a screen from the pool...

it sounds like your valving for the return water is set wrong. check to make sure that some water will return to the spa when the pool is running. It's a valving problem more than it is a filter problem.

My swimming pool filter returns dirty water to the

Might you have a broken lateral in the bottom of your filter and what you are seeing is sand coming into the pool?

Do you backwash daily or more often? (You should) Do you have a multi-port vavle or other type?

Im thinking broken lateral. Sucking air in and of itself will not cause dirt to return to the pool.

Whats a lateral? There is a series of pipes in the bottom of the sand with small holes in them. These holes allow water to travel in and out depending on whether you are filtering or back washing ... but not sand. If you have sand, you have a broken pipe.

Open the filter and remove the sand into a bucket to inspect the laterals.

I hope this works for you.

No pressure on gauge, pool is filtering but on off, cell tube fills up with water then emptys then fills up again

you aren't getting a good suction. Try placing your hand over the jet or jets going into your pool as to build up the pressure once again. Gradually allow the water to flow out of the jet(s) as you feel the pressure building up again. As of current you pump is just allowing the water to flow right through instead of sucking with force and pumping with force. No issues with filter or pump. Just need to restore proper suction/pumping
