If you want to save some money, doing it yourself is always the best way. Now I'm not sure how you would get to the motor on this vacuum, but just start from the most convenient point to take it apart and either take pictures after each part removal or write it down so you know exactly how everything came off in order to put it back on correctly. If it is just a loose wire, it should be fixed with some electrical tape to hold it in place?

I have two Electrolux Central Vacs. One is not working. Is there a reset button

If this is a CENTRALUX metal bodied 1590 series vac vac there is a reset breaker on the side of the motor housing of the vac. Depending on the age of the vac there is also a filter lockout switch . If you are using a cartridge filter and it is misaligned and drops down the switch will shut the vac off to prevent motor damage. Check those two items. The internal filter must be fully inserted so its twist lock/washer device can rotate holding it up in place. Then take a pair of insulated pliers and short across the low voltage terminals where the wiring system enters the top of the vac . If the vac starts, it is fine. If not your problem lies in the motor , the relay or the filter lockout switch.
If you have a plastic bodied Electrolux, a recent model the test procedure is the same but there is not the same lockout for the filter

Next test the nearest inlet in the house. If it fails to start you have a break in your internal wiring, possibly at a connection or a an inlet which may have a loose wire connection behind the wall. Post back with your results and if you have more questions. If so post the model #

The wall outlets do not turn on. The motor runs at the unit. I have reset and it blows/sucks at the unit. The canister is empty. Thanks, Je

You main low voltage line from the vac to the house is likely disconnected. Start by looking at the connection where the small wires enter the vac. Touch across those two wire terminals with a screwdriver or needle nose pliers and the vac should start. If it does, inside the home those same wires run along your pie to each inlet. Somewhere along the pipe path the wires have been disconnected or broken.. Think back to any area where work has been performed or face plates removed for painting, etc. Remove each inlet one at a time and look for a loose connection on the screw terminal at the back of the inlets. When reinstalling be certain each wire is tidy and connected to only one screw terminal at the back of the inlet. Once all inlets are connected in line you will have a complete circuit back to the vac. Post back with results

Shuts off after a few minutes

Could be a bad wire, but most likely a motor going bad. If motor you would look at about $90 just for the part.

If you remove the motor, you will see that the wires that go from the switch to the brushes. On one side there is one wire connected directly to the brush. On the other side the wire goes to a plastic plug with a second wire going to the brush. This is probably where the problem is. This is a fusible link and it has most likely melted creating an open in the circuit. I put a piece of solder where the link was and the motor ran BUT the brushed arced like a sparkler. Upon further examination the brushes were crumbling apart. I have been unable to find replacement brushes.
This machine has a five year warranty. I called Shop Vac Customer Service 1-888-822-4644 and they sent me a new motor.
I had a Shop Vac QL50EIC which had exactly the same problem but the warranty was expired so that I had to buy another motor for about $50.
