If the compressor is actually running, take the clamp on ammeter and try it on more than one wire going to the compressor. Check your voltage going to the relay. You should read around 120volts at the compressor relay. It may be a bad relay if the compressor is not running.

What is the width of Kenmore 253.57188600 refrigerator?

Hello Chris;
My name is Peter. I am a retired field service refrigeration technician.
First, The 253 model is an LG. Stay away from LG and Samsung refrigerators. 70% of my service calls were for either LG or Samsung. A common problem; LG would have compressor overload failures caused by the compressor. I would have to change both the overload and the compressor. This was a $650 - $900.00 repair. The Samsung has the best looking unit on the market, with the highest component failure rate. Their televisions are great, but appliances!
Ok, your dimensions.
1.) You need to take a tape measure and measure the space. You need 3/4" on the top and sides for proper air flow. You also require 2-1/2" in the back. Take this information to where you purchase a new unit.
2.) Consider going to a Sears Outlet Store (Scratch & Dent). You save a couple hundred dollars and have a one year warrantee.
3.) Consider a Habit Store for a used appliance.
Ok, What brand do I buy:
1.) If you can afford it: Kitchen Aid, Amanda or Hot Point (Fewest service calls).
2.) GE, Kenmore (Model number 110.---).
I hope I have helped;
Peter

Clicking sounds when the compressor starts running, then stops. Also, it will make a bang type noise every hour or two.

Shannon ! The noises you are hearing are coming from the compressor and its starter. I believe that you will need a refrigeration technician or a good sparky to check it out. The compressor is trying to start but because either starter is stuffed ( cheap repair ) or compressor stuffed ( not so cheap repair ) it the gets saved by the internal overload. this overload will call down over a period of time and the compressor will try and start again. Destructive cycle! TURN IT OFF. & call a fridgy !

Replace relay and check compressor working. If Compressor works, check with amps for correct amps. If not leak or chock. Call repairman to rectify. Thanks.

Fan runs, compressor tries to start then kicks out on overload.

i am not familar with this model number..

1. are you using the right type of capacitor. you need a "start" capacitor not a run capitor. make sure that capacitor is the proper size.
2. have you tried a hard start kit?
3. is their oil in the new compressor?
4. was the old compressor for r-22 or 410a?
5. is the new compressor for the proper refrigerant?
6. is there refrigerant in the system?
7. is it wired right?
8. is this a heat pump? if so is your reversing valve operationing properly?
9. was the old compressor a mechanical or electrical failure?
if electrical did you install a new filter drier?
10. just because the new compressor is new does not mean it is good
11. do you have the proper voltage?

good luck

Refrigerator cools as normal. Trips 15 AMP circuit breaker.

a full size refrige has to be on a 20 amp circuit, a 15 amp is just not big enough.. you should also know that this circuit has to be on a 12-2 gauge wire.. I also highly recommend installing a 20 amp HD receptacle
