SD cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the metal contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card.

SOURCE: cant unlock memory card

The little slide switch may be broken inside the card. Do you have another card to try in the camera? If another card does work in the camera, then it's time to buy a new card. They're inexpensive these days anyways at about $6 for 2GB:

SOURCE: card locked

If this happened after the card had been removed then you may have inadvertently slide the card lock into the 'lock' position. If the card has not been disturbed, the very fragile 'switch' may be defective. I would try removing the card and operating the slide-lock several times and then leaving it in the unlocked position.

SOURCE: Memory card is locked for

There are several possible causes for "memory card locked", "memory card error", or "no memory card". Some include trying to use of a 4GB SDHC card with an older camera made before SDHC format came out. Others include problems with the switch on the side of the card, or the switch internal to the camera. The problem may also arise from simple formatting problems if the card has never been formatted in the camera (note that this will also erase the card). Troubleshooting tips for this problem may be found at this link.

Memory Card does not work in our Cannon 6.0 MP Power Shot A540. Message says Memory Card Error - Card Locked.

Hi,

Turn off your computer the remove the memory card. Look at the card, it should have a small tab on the side that could be slide up or down to lock and unlock it. Just adjust it opposite from its position now and it should be fine.

Hope this helps. Thank you for using FixYa.

I have a Cannon Power Shot SD400 and the Card Locked feature keeps coming up on the screen. How do I get rid of this???

Take the memory card out of the camera and look at it. SD cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card. If the switch is already in the proper position, slide it fully the other way and then back again.

Cannon Power Shot A560 tells me 'card locked' how do I unlock it?

Remove the SD card. Look on its left side for a tiny slide switch. Slide it to its other "unlocked" position. Reinsert the card and try it out.

Greetings jdep,

On your card there is a small slide on the side that will lock the card and write protect it. Slide this to the unlocked position and you should have no issues resuming picture taking or deletion.
