The network connection light on the ethernet adapter being off indicates 1 of 3 thinks. One the router or modem needs to be powered off and then on. Two the ethernet adapter is disabled, go to control panel and then click on system icon, now device manager. Look in the newtork adapters section for anything with a yellow exclamation point or red X mark. Right click on any you find go be sure they say "enabled". Third possibility is a bad network card, you can get a replacement card from Office depot, Radio Shack or Wal-mart. Power off your PC take the side panel off, remove a slot cover on the bottom back of the computer and insert the card into the slot. You will need to get a PCI card for most computers. Power the computer back on, load the drivers from the cd provided with the card and plug your cable to the new card. Now you should be on line.
