HP Pavilion ZE5300 Video is very dim

I've recently come across a HP ZE5300 laptop where its hard to see whats on the LCD. If you hook it up to a monitor it works fine. I've repaced the LCD inverter and tried a new screen but I get the same results.

I've tried all the FN functions for switching the screen mode. I have a HP Pavilion ZE4300 here that has the same LCD Inverter model number. I swapped them to see if that was the issue at first but nothing changed and the LCD Inverter from the 5300 worked in the 4300. Buddymc I will order another inverter and check it out. Thanks for your help everyone.

Hello,

I have seen this happen before. If the inverter you installed is not from the exact model HP then the pinouts on the signal cable going to the motherboard are not correct. There are several inverters that use the same connector but are not interchangable. I would get another inverter that is for that model and I bit it will fix your machine.

I have a HP DV4 Pavilion 1287cl laptop and the screen has gone white. When I hook it up to an external monitor it works. Any ideas? A tech friend tested the inverter and said its fine.

I've come across this a few times and almost always with an HP. It was always the video card. I can't help too much more without seeing it. My best advice would be to take it to a repair shop.
hope this helps

My screen is very dim, I cant see it unless sun light is hitting the screen. It works on the tv when I hook it up with the hdmi cable but the laptop screen is still very dim.

Sounds Like the Ccd backlight is failing. You could buy a new lamp and get someone to put it in for you or buy a replacement lcd or complete lcd with bezel and do the swap. The panels rarely go bad as its the inverters, and the ccd that fail long before the panels life ends.

Video problem. Pavilion ZE4805US laptop

Most likely it is either a bad lcd inverter, due to the fact that you have clear picture on an external monitor. The inverter reduces the voltage coming from the motherboard to a lower level in order to power the lcd and the backlight. If this goes bad then you either get a picture randomly, a dim picture, or no picture on the lcd.

Pavilion dv6600 dimmed lcd monitor

You could have a faulty inverter or a CCFL lamp, To determine if you have a LCD screen, inverter or video card problem, read this and follow these instructions.
Defective CCFL backlight, it may have the following symptom: Screen flashs on red/pink and off. Picture stays on in red and slowly be come normal. Picture flickering with dim display or appear black. Picture flickering on and off. All these symptoms indicate that the LCD backlight lamp (CCFL Lamp) has reached the end of the life and all you need to do is replacing the CCFL lamp.
Connect an external monitor to your laptop and power the monitor up first then the laptop, if you see the normal Windows images then the video card and laptop is OK and the problem is definitely the backlight. Dim image and/or dark display on the laptop's LCD screen indicates a faulty LCD backlight and it could be the inverter that supplies high voltage to the CCFL lamp or it is the CCLF lamp is nearly burnt out or burnt out, most likely this is the case.
The inverter can be replaced easily but the CCLF lamp is more time consuming and requires soldering skills.

Hp tx 2000 screen does not show after boot up..wat can i use to get this to work.

Can you hear the hard drive spinning and does the computer appears to be running but you get a blank screen? If you look at the LCD screen at an acute angle and you see a dim image. then you have a backlight problem. To determine if you have a video card problem or a lcd screen problem, Connect an external monitor to your laptop and power the monitor up first and then the laptop, if you see the normal Windows images then the video card and laptop is OK and the problem is definitely the backlight.
Get back to me with the results of these tests and any error messages etc. so I can advise you.

Hp pavilion dv 9700 screen won't come on. Is this a video card issue? And how can I tell if it's a video problem or a hard drive problem?

If the screen is coming on but is dim, it can be an lcd or an inverter problem.

If your getting absolutely no video then you need to try a few things. Take out the battery and only hook up the ac adaptor and make sure the light is at least coming on the ac adaptor so you know for a fact the adaptor is working. Then take out the memory and reinsert each memory stick one at a time and after each stick reinsertion turn on the laptop and see if you get video.

If you don't then take out the hard drive then try again turning on the laptop and then finally take out dvd drive. If your still not geting video then the motherboard is definitely bad.

Can not see anything on the screen

If you see a very dim image or black screen or flicking image on the LCD screen it means you have a backlight problem.

Connect an external monitor to your laptop and power it up, if you see the normal Windows images then the video card and laptop is OK and the problem is definitely the backlight.
