Does anyone know how to fix this issue? It seems that a lot of people have this problem.

Thanks for your help. I only have one drive, for both DVDs and CDs. The drive still works fine for DVDs, but for some reason it no longer recognizes CDs. At first I thought it had to do with settings in Adobe Reader, because the CDs I was playing were PDF files. I changed the Reader settings, and then one CD was recognized. But after that no CDs have been recognized. It's a mystery what happened, and why the DVDs are still readable and play fine.

My sony laptop vgn-nr330e will not read my dvds, just cds.

Have you read the Sony Support for your drive?
Seems they have some issues with the drives.
I repaired a Sony last week with a drive issue similar to yours and the fix was the second section in the following link.
Yours sounds like a firmware issue for types of DVDs
The only way to be sure is to test others.
I'll suggest you try Sony's fix first then ask again if it doesn't work.

The DVD/CD drive will play some CDs and not others When it does not play, the computer hangs and can only be restarted by switching off/on at the mains.

If your DVD/CD drive was not doing this before, know that it is getting spoiled, especially on it's lens. Or the CDs and DVDs which don't play might be burnt on a higher speed which is not supported by drive. Try to use CDs and DVDs burnt at the speed recommended by the drive's manual, usually a maximum of x24 for CDs and x16 for DVDs.

I have purchased a tsst ts-t633a external dvd +-RW drive to link with an acer aspire a0531 netbook. The drive will read and write CDs but not recognise DVDs. Can anyone help?

You need a software made for DVDs which you can use for the CDs to.
To read DVDs (and CDs) use Power DVD.
To burn DVDs (and CDs) use Nero DVD. You may purchase them almost to any PC shop.

This is just an example. You may find some free software on the Internet but if you are not used with this I suggest to ask a friend to help you or to buy a software as I have already said.

My DVD drive in ACER Aspire 4720 not reading burnt DVDs and CDs

well look for cds that are thicker and sturdier. some low cost CDRs are too thin and/or soft that they cant handle the heat generated by the cd drive.

HP dv4000 laptop CD not reading

Type of media settings might be the issue but making a change for standard CD/DVD recording (it affects reading too) Issue can be resolved. Right click on the CD/DVD drive (Usually D drive ) click on properties and select and choose the recording option. Click the enable CD recording for this drive option

Click on apply and OK. Try again. You may try after reboot the computer. If issue persist please post so we can think about some alternate solutions.

Good Luck
