Acer E2140 - no longer reads CDs but still reads DVDs

ok if it reads dvds and no longer cds did it ever read cds i am asuming that you have a 2 drives one for cd and one for dvd and i asume that it did read cd no you didfnt say what happen ok sometimes when the cd does not work and the dvd drive does work some time but not always either you cd drive laser is either dirty or the plug in side of the computer is off the data cable the silver and red conected to the cd and it also could be loose from the mother board or it is bad meanig you might have to replace it but first check inside the computer you have to take the cover off and inspect now after you have done that make sur you cables and power plug going in to the cd is secure and tight then put cover on back again and restart you computer and see if the cd is working now some time windows does not load all the driver for the hardware so after it is restated check the cd and if not go to the cd drive properties in the cd and see if it is enabled or working if it is and widow says it has no problems then you might have to get a cd len cleaner disc and if that dosent work then the cd drive is died and you have to replace the drive other wise you would have to go to the registry and maybe some time when you clen you registy and see if the disc is fragmented sometimes it will work i am just giving you some starting points because you did not say what you were doing and what caused this see if i knew what you were doing and more imformation i couls have toy fix it your self
