Question about Refrigerators

4 Answers

We have a 2 year old RV with Dometic RDR 1292 refridgerator/freezer with icemaker. @ months agao after moving the RV from Illinois to California we had a dead refridgerator. We are the 2nd owners and have an extended warranty and call for Service. This was in April. The service man has replaced the cooling unit and the unit still did not cool. The fridge temp stayed at 54 degrees and the freezer at about 30 degrees. He thn came out and rplaced the heating element which had a burned area. Still did not cool. The cooling unit was replaced a second time and the exact same thing happened again. The fridge cooled down to 40 degrees and the freezer down to 18 degrees (this took 13 hours) I then put food back in the fridge and freezer and within a couple hours the temp was back up to 55 in the fridge and 30 in the freezer. We live in our RV so I am so frustrated I don't know what to do. Any ideas on what the problem could be. I need my fridge and it is only 2 years old. We have made sure the RV is level by putting the level in the fridge so that's not the problem. Our warranty company says the problem is ours since they already paid the tech $1600.00 for the fix.

Does anyone know if the thermostat is actually in the icemaker for the Dometic RDR 1292 side by side refridgerator as suggested might be the problem in the previous post?

If the warranty company didn't fix the problem then they are legally obligated to either replace the unit or keep trying to repair it, they could have replaced it by now, have seen this same kind of response from other appliance warranty firms, they will not help u unless u are very firm with them and demand to speak to a supervisor, DON'T STOP AT THE CUSTOMER REPRESENTATIVE LEVEL, GO HIGHER. It is up to u to get this company to do there job, sue them if u have to, file a small claims against them, that will work i assure u. My own parents went through this with a built in Microwave oven issue, my mom dogged them until they replaced the microwave, they are stonewalling u right now hoping u will give up, DON'T DO THAT!

if a number of qualified repair people have spent hours and $1600 on this and it is not fixed then chances are the problem will not get fixed over this keyboard, I suspect the gas control valve may be at fault, but when is enough enough?? replace it and sue the insurance company if they refuse to pay, u are just frustrating yourself.

Hi,

Please keep this manual handy.

http://www.gasrefrigeration.net/dometic_manuals.htm

Have you checked if the refrigerator works on gas but not 120 volts or 120 volts. If so, the cooling unit is most likely OK, the problem is probably in the controls which will either require a new control or other factory repair. click here - if not continue
Is the refrigerator level? Yes - continue Is anything blocking the refrigerators vents? if no - continue Is there an ammonia smell coming from inside the refrigerator? If yes and cleaners or disinfectants haven't been used recently (they can smell like ammonia) then chances are that the cooling unit is leaking and will need replacing click here - if no continue Is there is a yellowish powder or stain on or near the rear of the refrigerator cooling unit? If yes, chances are that the cooling unit is leaking and will need replacing click here - if no continue If it does not cool on either gas or electricity but is getting hot at the rear of the unit chances are that the cooling unit will need factory repair or replacing - click here for why they fail or click here for info on factory repairs or parts - if no continue Do you believe it is not working because it is not making any motor noise? Gas refrigerators do not have motors and can take up to 8 hours to cool. If the refrigerator does not work after running for some time click here - if no continue Are the gasket rubbers around the door/s damaged or misaligned? Realign or replace? If no or you cannot repair yourself and refrigerator is still not working properly click here

Is your propane gas refrigerator level? Yes - continue

If it runs well on one and not the other there is a good chance the controls are the problem. Also check that the flame stays on when on gas. If it is not the thermostat could be switching off too early.

Thanks for contacting Fixya

Make sure the condenser fan underneath the unit is running when the compressor is. I don't know what else it could be unless the door gaskets are in bad shape.

AC,DC, gas RV fridge Dometic

You more than likely need to replace the control cable between the upper and lower board. It comes as a kit with the upper board. You can also do a bypass test by unplugging your thermoster from the circuit board. The thermoster is the temperature control for the refrigerator nothing to do with the freezer.
