Question about GE Refrigerators

1 Answer

My GE refrigerator evaporation fan turns on and off intermittently. If I unplug the refrig for a while and plug in again, it will run normally for a couple of days. Then the problem will come back again. The refrig model is GSS22JFPH WW.

This problem is related to a few possibilities. The fan motor is defective, or the control board relay has become defective. At this point I am comparing this model against the GE Profile Repair Manual to get you some test points to check before we change anything. The part number for the fan motor is WR60X10185
I will be back as soon as possible to help answer the question and give you more informed advice. Thanks, Sea Breeze

GE Side by Side Refrig - loud noise behind the ice maker section Model PSS25SGMB BS

it sounds like the evaporator fan blade is hitting some ice that has built up around the blades i have seen this happen a lot on g.e. SxS lately,if you can remove the ice maker and dispenser you can see the fan blade,if you dont want to do this then shut down the refrigerator and leave freezer door open and heat it carefully with a hairdrier to speed the process up to melt this ice then restart it and the noise should be gone

Make sure this fan is running. You may have to hold the door switch in for it to run. There is a flap you adjust with the fridge temp. control. Make sure it's opening and closing when you adjust the fridge temp.
The problem could be the electronic control if you have one or the mechanical linkages.

The ideal temp for the freezer is around 10 degrees F.
Look at the evaporator coils behind the rear cover inside the freezer and check the ice forming on the coils.

GSH25JFRFWW evaporator fan makes loud deep noise at times

GE refrigerators have a faulty design, and so don't defrost completely, so ice builds up in the evaporator coils and on and in the evap. fan motor. Melting the ice will make the fridge more efficient, and the fan quiet again.

The slow, easy way to fix is take out all the food, unplug the fridge, leave doors open all day. Ice will melt, and all will be fine ... for a few months, until the ice builds up again. The fast way is here.

What turns on the evaporator fan? I have a 5 year old GE profile bottom freezer fridge. I have discovered that the defrost timer is faulty. The defrost heater works and the evaporator coils frost up ok...

The main control board is probably the problem . Part number WR55X10656 . This board controls the operation of the fan motors and everything else on the refrig . This is also the " defrost timer " . However , the coils frosting up , is probably because the fan motor is not pulling air across them . Not because of a faulty " defrost timer " . This board is located on the back of the refrig , behind an 8"X10" panel . Usually a resistor burns out relating to the fan motor operation . Cannot replace the resistor , only the board .

Refrigerator has a clicking sound and does not run

Replace the motherboard (part # WR55X10942) but be careful to check that the evaporator fan (inside the freezer) turns on when you power up the refrig again. A bad evaporator fan motor can take out the motherboard. If compressor starts with new board but not evap fan, unplug immeadiatelly and replace the evap fan motor to save new board.

Compressor & Evap. Fan both work for 12 hours then evap stops

I believe that because defrost is done by the mother control board this is why this is happening the part of the board that controls defrost is malfunctioning and the only way to resolve the problem is to replace the mother board part number WR55X10656 You can find the replacement board at these places below. Compressor runs but circulating fan does not.

Sometimes when a refrigerator is closed up for a while the moisture collects on the fan motor. I recommend that you not run the refrigerator like this until you can remove the rear panel and try to get the fan spinning again . Try turning it and allow the rust to loosen up. This will get the fan going providing the fan has not burned out due to not spinning. Sometimes other things can cause this, but for now try this and if it works please rate me. Let me know if I can help you get your refrigerator going, that's what I am here for. Thanks, Sea Breeze

Not cooling

Sometimes when the evaporator fan goes out, it takes part of the motherboard also. (part number WR55X10552, which also subs into a WR55X10656) If this is the case, I would not expect the refrig to be running either. (If your compressor still runs, check door switch.)
