Question about Pioneer SD-643HD5 64" Rear Projection Television
Have had this great TV for 5 or 6 years. Has just started to lose the blue component of ther picture. Works OK for days then will lose blue for a few minutes and then OK again. Sometimes turning it off then on restores the blue. NOT related to heat buildup as it can go out soon after coming on or after being on for many hours. Since it usually works OK it will be difficult to diagnose. Since it comes and goes I suspect a bad connection or a cold solder joint. Any suggustions as to how to diagnose and repair this problem? Are there "weak points" in this set? Could it be something else? In the old days I did TV repair, but not for many years. Never worked on a rear projection TV. Is this a DIY project? Is there something I can do to force the problem to appear and stay so we can find it? Thanks.
I had a similar problem, but with the green CRT. Mine turned out to be a bad solder connection on my green CRT driver board. Look at solution #2 for my fix, which applies to any of the driver boards (RGB).
