You don't have to "remove" the handle from the hose to attach other attachments, just depress the tab at the end of the hose and pull the upper wand loose then use the "adapter" to use the dusting brush or simply snap the crevice tool in place to use. If the handle won't come loose from the upper wand, then the described "tab" needs replaced as it's locking up the parts. Hope that helps!

To replace just the hose unscrew it from the swivel attached to the back of the vacuum. The replace swivel insert screwdrivers into the tabs holding it to the body (from inside the dust compartment) to remove it, the new one snaps into place.

This applies to Hoover SteamVac model F5899-910.

My unit had a broken hose. I repaired the hose using duct tape and Teflon tape. The breakage seems to be due to a manufacturing error or design defect. The hose is clamped to the unit where it passes to the inside. The position of the clamp did not allow enough slack when the handle is released and the unit is wide open.

The hose coupling has a plastic latch that holds it onto the vacuum nipple. Pry it and remove the coupling. Then trim the ragged end of the hose and clean things up. Wrap the hose with some teflon tape and then tape the hose to the coupling with several turns of duct tape. Attach the hose coupling back onto the vacuum nipple.

Now you should move the clamp say an inch, so that it leaves more slack. Take the two screws out of the clamp and pry out the plastic bracket/cover that holds the clamp in place. Then move the clamp and screw the clamp back onto the bracket/cover. Then snap the bracket/cover back in place.

Take care not to put too much slack in the hose (by moving the clamp too far), as the hose can also bunch up due to being too crowded when the handle is upright.

Inspect the hose and the tape whenever you use it.

However, if you are referring to the wand handle, and where it connects to the machine behind the power button (or where the hose connects to the wand handle), part replacement is possible.

Your Hoover SteamVac model F5842 needs the Hoover SteamVac replacement hose part number 40309007. You may find a link to the correct hose for your model below on our website:

In terms of replacing the hose, this is an older style SteamVac, which attaches the hose to the front of the Dirty Water Solution Tank.

Hi, Your vacuum should have complete set of accessories when you purchased the unit. Your hose has snap lock system. Just check the accessories you need to make snap connection of your hose. Unless you have the missing parts.

Make sure you have a good bag installed in the vacuum and the door is properly in place. Remove the attachment hose from the bag chamber and turn the machine on. You should have good suction coming from the hose inlet. If you don't you have a problem in the bag chamber. Bad bag, door is not on correct, door is defective, dirty secondary filter.

Connect the hose back to the machine and pull the other end out from the bottom, and turn the machine on. You should have good suction there. If you don't you have a clog or hole in the attachment hose and it needs to be unclogged or relplaced.

Reconnect the to the bottom. Flip the mahine upside down. Take the screws out of the bottom plate and remove. Remove the brushroller and belt. Turn the machine on and you should have suction at the inlet coming off the brushhousing. It you don't, then you have a clog in the nozzle hose and it needs to be removed. It will probably be more accessable from the bottom side since that is the way that it entered.

Sometimes a suction problem can be confused with an brush problem. The belts on that machine should be replaced every 6 to 8 months because they will strentch and wear. This is an inexpensive maitainance that will dramatically improve its function. Part Numbers are 38528-035 and 38528-034

Hoover SteamVac Ultra (model F5883-900) Threw it away, and had to buy a new machine. Sorry, but I found it more difficult to deal with the housing unit on the machine and just couldn't deal with it anymore. I hope you have better luck than I did with it. I couldn't find ANY help on ANY web sites for this model, just too old I guess.

There are spring loaded button replacements and most vac repair shops should have them.

Don't listen to Solution #1, it is simply NOT correct. This is the correct answer:

As you stated, you already know where the water hose connection is. It is under the easily visible port cover on the top of the base.

What is NOT easily visible is the connection for the vacuum hose. That's because the machine needs to be "reconfigured" before the hose can be attached. To "reconfigure" the machine:
1) Remove the cover off the waste water tank and notice how things appear--it will soon be important.
2) Find and remove the "panel" on the front of the waste water tank by sliding it straight up and out.
3) Replace the panel with the connector by sliding it straight down. When finished the top should look something like it did in step 1). This assures that the dirty water will be vacuumed into the waste water tank.
