Depending where the noise is coming from. If you can be next to the unit as it starts see if the noise is coming from the fan or control panel (where the electric is going into) and how loud is it. I would venture to say that it is probably the fan motor, you will hear it if you are there.

Lennox central air for home not kicking on. Fan on the outside not spinning but motor is making a humming noise. No cold air coming in home. We have circuit breakers they are turn to the on position. ...

Is the indoor fan working? The problem with the outdoor fan sounds like it could be your capacitor. Turn off the power to the outdoor unit and make sure the fan turns freely using a screwdriver or something that will reach the blades. If it turns freely then it is probably the capacitor. Let me know what you find.

I have a whirlpool quiet miser, ACE082XSO that is cooling fine, but makes quite a lot of tinnie rattling noise when I listen to it run on the outside of our bedroom. is there a fix for this noise problem...

Normally a sound like this is vibration or the fan making contact with the casing. If you pick up on the unit a press on it in different places and the sound goes away it i vibration. If its the fan there will be evidence on the edges of the fan blade. You can also turn off the power and slowly turn the fan and see if it hits. Just remember sometimes just moving the unit around will make a nois start or stop. good luck

Sounds like the motor burned up when the ice blocked the air which it was not able to cool the motor it will need to be replaced. (the motor)

It sure sounds like the out side condenser fan has gone out.If you need to Fix a water hose to run on it like a spray fanning out over the out side coils(condenser)and try and see if it will cool.It will do the trick, until you get it fixed on week days.If I can help, let me know.>>>roniecon@gmail.com

Our central air conditioning unit is out. The outside unit makes a straining noise but the fan does not turn. I can manually turn the fan blades.

Sounds like a start run capacitor. The motor may be bad too. The capacitor will look bloated if it is bad. There may be other reasons for these parts to fail. So please call a licensed technician for professional help.

Central ac blowing hot air outside fan not moving but making a noise

This is nothing but an either or -or ! First, make the thermostat calls for cool, there are suppose to be 2- noise outside, the fan motor and the compressor (and if a old system,a humming noise which is the contactor coil which picks up the main 240-volts).. hurry up and take a stick or something and turn the fan blades, if it picks up speed and run, then its the capicator. If not then the fan motor is bad.! (BOTTOM LINE)!
