Try filling it again and stay with it, when it starts to get near the top, unplug it, if water continues coming out you need a new valve, if it stops, then the level switch inside the control panel is bad

I have a GE washing machine that the water does not turn off once it reaches the appropriate level. Last night it overflowed and flooded 3 rooms.

You have a bad water level sensor.

Look inside washer and check if anything is holding a float sensor down. If not, the sensor is bad or its connection to the control board is loose or not connected.

The machine is overflowing when you run it with a full load.

Not always. It can be anything from pressure switch value to mixer value not shutting off properly.

My washing machine is overflowing

I replace the inlet water value. The part was less than $40.00 and took about 30 minutes to do.

You just have to replace the inlet valve, can do it yourself.

Water keeps running will not shut off causes and overflow

If it only overflows while the washer is running, check the pressure switch, or water level switch. The hose may have come loose, or could have a hole in it somewhere. Otherwise the switch may be stuck or may need to be replaced.

If it's overflowing when the washer is off (i.e. in the middle of the night when there is no laundry in it), then check the water valve.

Maytag Washer overflowwing

I had the same problem. My whole basement flooded. Inside the back (you can see it thru a small hole 1/2 way up on right) a small white hose connects to the water shut off collection area. This hose carries the water from the tub to the collection area and tells the machine to cut off for the size of load selected. Mine had come undone and so the machine could not sense it was full and the water poured all out the bottom. I simply removed the small gray panel at the bottom on the back and reached up inside to reconnect.

GE washing machine water overflowing

sound like the same washing machine from hell that we have. three or four times it has overflowed from want we have been told the hose that runs from the drum to on/off pressure switch cloggeds with soap. we have tried different soap, hot water, cold, water you name it we've tried it. so now evey time we use it we have to clean it with a coat hanger by taking the front off the machine.

P.S. take the hose off top and bottom to clean it, all it takes two/three very small soap bubbles to clogged it
