You have whats called a verticle swep falure. Its probably just the verticle output IC but if you dont know much about soldering or circuit troubleshooting ,you should leave this to the pros. Theres way to much Hi voltage inside these sets to twiddle around inside them. Also there are no consumer serviceable parts inside these sets as well, as they are all solid state, and my advice is spend a few bucks and get a pro to do this job for ya, as it can, and will, kill ya if your not careful.. Is it worth saving a few bucks??? Naawww Call a pro.. Good Luck

SOURCE: Black line running horizontally across TV screen

A line on an LCD, either horizontal or vertical usually means the video driver board is defective or the screen is defective, does it show up as black even on a dark screen? That means a line of LCD "shutter"s is not working and there is a problem that cant be fixed by a reboot or channel change. Bummer.

Horizontal lines across screen of sony KDL-46BX450

Sounds like a T'Con fault itself. Re-seat all the incoming and outgoing flat cable wires to T'Con. If it do not help you, replace it with a new one of same part number. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. Viewing it in "Mosaic" will make surf easy.

Our tv, a Panasonic # CT-36D11E/CT-36D11 only shows a horizontal thin line across the screen. The sound is fine - any ideas? Is it time to replace or could it be repaired cheaply?

Resolder the vertical IC and replace those capacitors near and next to your vertical IC. If the horizontal line still appears, you may have to replace the IC. Thanks for asking and be caredful!

I have a horizontal color line across the screen...have sound .This is on Video 1

If you are comfortable working inside the set and can solder, try resoldering both the vertical IC and the input jack connections. The vertical IC will be a small flat IC attached to a heatsink with about 9-11 pins. It will be marked LA7837 or something similar.

Let me know the results.

Horizontal lines on Screen

Sounds like an inverter problem. If the power supply is internal replace the capacitors coming out of the voltage regulators. These are usually 1000mf and/or 470mf. If that doesn't do the trick look up the numbers on the 8-pin chips that drive the secondary transformers on the inverter to see if they are getting the right voltages.
Good Luck!
