Question about Toshiba 27A45 27" TV

2 Answers

Television Toshiba 27A45C, chassis M3S226: There are some retrace lines in the first 4 inches in the top of the tv. I hoped to find some adjustments on the board and the only 4 adjustments I found didn't help. I was told by JAIME867 that these lines are cause by defective capacitors in the vertical section of the TV. No adjustment will work unless the capacitors are replace. He told me also to check the circuit board and try to find an IC with the following markins LA7847. I found a chip that is a LA78041 and I have the schematic on hand. He said that the values of the capacitors are between 1uF, 10uF or possibly a 47uF. There are 7 capacitors but they don't have the numbers he gave me so I presume he's using a schematic close to the model I have. I'll need to know more about the capacitors he suggest to change so I can spot the good ones to change.

I have the necessary skills for changing the capacitors. Your comments are mainly pointing the electrolytic capacitors. Are those the ones to change first? Could my problem be caused by non-electrolytic caps?

Hi,
Usually electrolytic capacitors create problem after certain time and you need to check those capacitors that are located near big resistors (1w or 2w) that generate heat and electrolytic capacitor gets dry due to resistors heat. It is my personal experience in TV repair.

I would be in better position if you could email me schematics of this TV at welcomejee@yahoo.com to help you more.
Thanks.

    Thanks for schematics email.
    Please replace C406 (1uf 50v) C704 (100uf 35v) C408 (1000uf 25v) and C409 (10uf 50v) in vertical section that is mentioned in schematics page-30 Deflection Schematics.
Hope that will help you to solve TV problem.

Hi,

replacing each of the electrolytic capacitors one by one until the problem has gone away. Sometimes the gassy electrolytic will have a bulge in the side - which helps you identify it. If you have any electronic skill and a soldering iron and know how to disconnect the wires from the electrolytic and solder in the new one, you could do it. Identifying the electrolytics is easy because they are polarized and have their capacity and voltage rating written on the side of the can, making it easy to find a replacement.

So, let me know what you think and if I can give you any further assistance.

thanks

I do not have the service manual at this moment but you can google it by the model number of your TV.

Red an green lines across the tv about every two

Sounds like you have retrace lines in your picture. It may resemble something like window blinds, but slanted to the lower right. You most likely have a bad crt or the AKB circuit is bad. This most likely needs a technician to adjust the G2's to see if it can be balanced.

Look at it on the QVC channel where you have boxes with straight lines. If any of the 3 colors are bowed and 1 inch off, then it needs parts inside. If the colors are straight and only 1/4 inch off, you can adjust it. Using the remote, in the menus find convergence to adjust. Your user manual will explain it. At WWW.Toshiba.com you can download the manual if you do not have it.

Green arcs from bottom up with darkest one at bottom on dark screens

there is a way to get rid of the lines, you need to enter a code from your remote to access a hidden menu. From there you can adjust the lasers in the tv(green lines)I beleive it is very sensitive though, if done wrong can reck the tv. Not sure of the code or directions on how to exactly adjust the lasers, actually looking for them my self. Hope i was some help though!
