No picture on the monitor

When I unlock the PC, the monitor comes on momentarily, and then goes black.

Try the monitor on another computer, to check-out the monitor.

Does the POWER lamp on the monitor stay on when the monitor goes black? If so, then the monitor probably is OK.

Try a different monitor, to trouble-shoot the video-card.

Monitor goes black after a moment

Most common failures in the LCD monitors are bad capacitors (bulging top/seal or leaking) in the power supply, failed inverter circuits (blown fuse, shorted transistors, shorted/open transformers), bad lamps (poor solder connections or worn out lamps). You will need to open it up and inspect the inside, see example of failed monitors to get some ideas what to look for: http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums
Post back what you see inside so we can guide you further and it will help out other people in the future also.

You need to open it up and inspect the capacitors (look for bulging top/seal), burnt inverter transformers, resistors, etc. in the power supply/Inverter board first, post back what you find so we can guide you further. Pinstripe cinema display flickers on momentarily then goes black. Image comes back for a split second while when power light glows steadily then goes away while power light flickers. this is a 22"...

when the screen is black and the power light is steadly lit, shine a flash light at the screen. if you can see something, the inverter board is bad and the back light cannot turn on. if the power light flickers, reseat the power plug and put your ear to the back of the monitor where the power plug is. if you hear a buzzing or any high pitched noises; the power supply is bad. use the macufactures warranty for repairs.

Your backlight might be dead. Try using a flashlight to see if you can see a screen
when it turns black. If you can, its a backlight problem. What model of screen do you have?
