Question about Dryers

2 Answers

I have an Amana gas dryer LG4409W ... when I normally set the timer I rotate it then push in to activate ... for some reason I pushed the dial in while I was rotating it ... ever since then the dryer does not work correctly ... when I set it to the first cycle at the top of the dial, the motor turns but there is no heat and the dial does not advance ... if I set the dial to the next cycle (timed dry) the dial does advance but the heat is low ... I replaced the dial/timer switch and when I first turned it on for a test there was plenty of heat ... I just put a load in to dry and the same symptoms are back ... no heat and the dial doesn't advance ... any advice ?? Ron Truhlar, ronbo777@gmail.com, 319.248.9869

Are you certain you are talking about the same dryer ?? the P/N on the timer part is 502967 (model 275BEF) and it cost ~ $125.00 ... I previously stated that I replaced the timer and when I first turned it on there was lots of heat ... it's 2 days later and now no heat on the first cycle and the first cycle doesn't advance ... the "Timed cycle" does generate some heat and does advance the timer ... please advise ...

Hi,

I am sure you have already done the following.

Sounds like a timer has went bad. Especially if it wont move in any cycle. The timers are pretty easy to replace, and on this model, not that expensive. The timer number is : 8299778 and runs around $60.00. To remove the timer, just take the back panel (of the console) off, then slip the knob off by pulling gently, then remove the hold down screws and pull off. I believe this particuliar timer has one wire bundle, but if not, be sure to make your wires to know where they go back. Good luck, and let me know if you need any further information.

Now to test the following for no heat issue:

1 check your power to make sure you have 240 volts . 2 verry possible your heating element is burned out.3 you may have a safety thurmo burned out.depending on the brand and model your start switch could be bad on the moter. also depending on the brand and model` the timer could be bad or a burnt wire.
Thanks for contacting Fixya.

Why would my Amana washer not do anything but fill up with water. Nothing will function at all on all the cycles but the fill. It doesn't even click on the timer when you try to set to any setting exc

Hi Kirby
First... Caution
Because your dealing with water & electricity it can be lethal to fiddle around inside. That said...
Washing machines are controlled by a master timer unit, usually mechanical, but rotated by an AC Clock motor. If the timer is not getting voltages to the various Switches around the "timer unit" or "clock motor" then the individual selected functions won't work.
Manually Rotating to a particular function then Activating the On/Off Push/Pull switch should start things happening even if timer motor is dead. So
If your OK with AC electrical goods then open it up.
Connection wires may have fallen off or something simple. A multimeter is your best friend here. Look for the big rotary clock behind the main control dial. Listen for the clock motor running. The main Push in & out Button is the On / Off switch. Check that its got AC on the input wire & switches across to the other wire when the knob is pushed in / out. This may be the problem...

You can always call an appliance repair technician!
Good Luck

I have an amana dryer model ned4500vq0 it goes through the cycle but does not stop.

Sounds like the push-to-start switch, part # 3977456 is stuck "on." Check continuity with a meter. Does the timer dial continue to rotate after completing its cycle?

My amana DLG330RAW dryer won't stay on. it has a combo timer and start dial turn the dial to the timed settinG and push...dryer starts part way through the cycle, the dryer...

Hello PB,

What i would most suspect as being the problem of why the dryer just stops randomly before the cycle is done,is a problem with the door switch or the door catch...does the dryer restart as soon as you restart it?? if yes i would check that the door catch was broken so the door will pop open stopping the dryer. Also check the door switch using a meter set to measure ohms and see if the contact is burnt ( a good door switch will be zero ohms resistiance)

Hello, I have Amana LG4309W heavy duty gas dryer.

sounds like one of the supply fuses at the house panel, these 240 volt dryers are wired so the timer is on one phase(120)volt and the motor is on the opposite phase(120)volt and the heating element is on both phases for a combined 240 volts,if you lose one phase you either wont get motor operation or timer operation, and for sure no heat and you have the timer so you have 120volts

I having troble with my t103 timer to turn the lights on manualy i try to set the timer but for some reason doesn't work what can i do ???

T103 Intermatic timer has 120Volt clock motor and can control 120V or 240V Loads.
Wiring for timer is shown on following link:
http://waterheatertimer.org/How-to-wire-T104-Intermatic-timer.html#T103

Troubleshoot T103:
1) Manual override is working correctly, and it snaps crisp and clean, and Load turns on-and-off.
That means timer is basically good.

2) Next look to see if yellow dial is rotating.
If dial is not rotating, then 120Volt clock motor needs to be replaced.
Take photo of wiring and mark wires before starting.
Remove two white wires connected to screw terminals 1 and A.
Snap timer mechanism out of box, clock motor is on back of timer.
Use small star screwdriver to remove old clock motor.
Reattach white wires on terminals 1 and A, tighten screws very tight.
Reset current time: lift and rotate dial until current time lines up with silver pointer.
Grainger sells 125V clock motor:
http://www.grainger.com/Grainger/INTERMATIC-Time-Clock-Motor-1PNK1?Pid=search

3) If dial is rotating, but gets stuck at certain times, or runs slow, then replace clock motor.

4) If dial is rotating, and trippers are attached to dial, but timer does not turn ON, then trippers are worn down and need to be replaced.
Grainger sells the T103 trippers
http://www.grainger.com/Grainger/INTERMATIC-Timer-Tripper-2E054?Pid=search

5) How Intermatic mechanical timers work:
Dial with ON-OFF trippers is rotated by clock motor.
Trippers on dial contact ON-OFF lever.
ON tripper pushes lever one direction.
OFF tripper pushes lever opposite direction.
Lever moves electrical contacts on back of timer that turn Load ON-OFF.
Manual override lever clicks back and forth with each ON-OFF action.

Amana dryer timer dial wiil not rotate/temperature stays hot

The elctrical contacts in the timer have welded themselves together or the notch wheel is broke in the timer; either way you need a new timer, and this also explains why it runs until you open the door.
