Question about Brother MFC 240C All-In-One InkJet Printer
We always print in b&w so the colour cartridges should be full. I tried removing and putting back the cartridges and it worked for a short time. Now the printer claims "no cartridge".
I'm so close to throw this thing out of the window, it never works when needed.
Long live HP!
It is possible to print with only one cartridge that has ink as long as you take a piece of black tape and cover the front center of the empty cartridge and placing it back into the machine .you need to cover the clear plastic in center. Also to take off the power from on the machine press and hold power button for a few sec

Try taking catridge out and putting in again and make sure to say "yes" when it asks if you put in a new cartridge on the LCD screen. Then try printing a test sheet from the menu (you can find how to do this in your manual or online for Brother MFC-240C troubleshooting tips for printing), it is very simple, then it will print a test sheet and you will see if the colors are printing correctly or not, most likely if they are not working, the test sheet will be bad (boxes of colors will be missing) so the LCD screen will ask you if the test sheet was good and you say NO, then it will do another cleaning of the ink cartridges, and then you should do another test sheet and see what happens then, it could take a few tries, but hopefully it works, FYI-I just changed my black for the first time the other day and I had to get help MYSELF online in the troubleshooting tips since it would NOT PRINT, and it took me having to take the cartridge out and put it back in once, and do 3 test sheets and THREE cleanings before it started to work properly, I too am very annoyed by this machine that I paid $100 for and thought I was getting a good deal, only to find out it costs me $75 to replace the ink cartridges when needed, WHICH IS RIDICULOUS, and that there seem to be a few BUGS in this machine, such as this one with people having trouble getting their ink to work, and in my experience, having to do MULTIPLE CLEANINGS to get the damn ink to work (and I have seen TONS of people asking for advice on the SAME TOPIC)-ALSO-not sure if you know this but with this machine, IT WILL NOT LET YOU PRINT IN ANY COLOR if ANY of your cartridges are empty. So even if you just want to print BLACK but you have an EMPTY MAGENTA CARTRIDGE, it WILL NOT LET YOU PRINT, you must have ink in ALL four of the cartridges in order to be able to PRINT AT ALL, I find that VERY STUPID. BUT WAIT-THERE ARE TWO MORE "BUGS/GLITCHES" with this machine, at least for me.
ONE is the DOOMING PAPER JAM, in my experience of having a few "paper jams" and then opening the back cover and simply clearing it out (no big deal right?....)....WRONG....no matter what, the stupid LCD screen keeps telling me I have a paper jam and I need to remove the back cover and clear it before I continue, so then I remove the cover again to be sure I actually did clear it, YES...IT IS CLEAR..put the back cover BACK ON and NO MATTER WHAT it wil NOT LET ME CONTINUE, no button to press to tell the damn machine that IT IS CLEAR, it just keeps telling me to "CLEAR THE PAPER JAM" which in reality I cleared otu 10 minutes ago? So, I have found that the ONLY WAY TO BE ABLE TO START PRINTING AGAIN is to UNPLUG the machine and plug it back in. Oh yeah, and do you want to know why I have to unplug the machine and not simply just turn IT OFF? Well that leads me to the next GLITCH...
MY MACHINE NEVER TURNS OFF, what is up with that? My on/off button does nothing, my machine stays on as long as it is plugged in and if I want to turn it off, I have to unplug it, why is THAT? Why is there an on/off button if it has NO FUNCTION and the machine does NOT TURN OFF?
Ok, so I think I am done ranting now, just wanted to add my two cents about how I feel ripped off for the $100 I spent on this machine with OVERPRICED ink cartrdiges and lots of glitches and it seems IMPENDING that one day it will just stop working.
