"DEAD-IN-THE-WATER" I WAS BACKING UP MY SYSTEM (TOSHIBA SATELLITE 5101-501 6-7 YR OLD) AND WHEN I FINISHED MY BACK UP, IT WOULD NOT SHUT. I HELD DOWN THE "ON" SW AND FORCED IT OFF. THEN IT WOULD NOT START UP, NOTHING. THE AC PLUG IN AND BATTERY LIGHT IS ON THE BATTERY WILL CHARGE AND DISCHERGE, BUT NITHING MORE.THE CD ROM LIGHT WILL BLINK OFF AND ON WHEN I PUT AN OS CD IN AND AND PUSH THE MODE BUTTON BUT NOTHING MORE.

this is a "No POST" situation, and can be caused by anything from loose screws, bad battery, bad or unseated removeable component of the system, to a blown capacitor on the motherboard. You should have a skilled technician check out the machine (not a geek squad). Although, that old, you might want to just consider a new laptop, they are in fierce competition to bring prices down lately.

OK, this is a huge problem for many systems. Not only was the OS corrupted, but the Bios, including the graphics and sound driver. This is impossible to fix. Look into buying a new laptop. When you cannot see or hear what is in front of you, it is a tough situation. It may be hard to believe, but look into buying a new laptop.

I've got my toshiba satellite L500 not long time just 1 yr and 7 months old thats why im sad coz its just new but when i turn it on the screen is black. What do i need to do? pls help me...thank u in...

Hi and welcome to fixya!

First thing you do for this is shut down the machine by just pressing and holding the power button for about 5 seconds.
Then unplugged the charger and take out the battery.
Next is press and hold the power button again for 10 seconds, without the charger and battery this time.
Put the battery back in and the charger and turn on the machine normally. This should solve the issue 95% of the time. If it does not, time to contact the warranty support for Toshiba. They might offer you a cheap out of warranty service.

Hope this helps!

I think your fan might be broken....if the fan doesn't cool the pc,the processor or the chipset will automatically shut down the pc to prevent burning hardware.Or your hard drive might keep crashing.Oh yeah and abstract from this i don't recommend ever using mcaffe
