Question about Rheem 50 Gallon FVR NATGAS Water Heater 6YR 22V50F1

1 Answer

Unit stops heating and must be unplugged to 'reset' once a week.

Rheem PVS50 is 1.5 years old and just stops heating. Remove the elec plug and wait for 15 secs and it starts up again for another week. I did not notice a blinking light code. I was advised to gently clean the temp sensing probe with fine steel wool and that allowed the unit to run for 6 wks. Problem just returned. May be coincidental, but this often occurs over the weekend when usage is lighter.

2 yr old ecco sense UMC 117 unit flashes 38 beeps and wont give hot water

1) Copy following link for Rheem tankless troubleshoot, including ecosense.

2) Probably needs new circuit board.

3) Product manual usually give list of required yearly maintenance.
Perform the maintenance, just like changing oil on car, and then service technician is familiar with your water heater and can count on your money each year around Christmas.

4) For independence, reliability, cost, and convenience, don't buy tankless water heater, or any other expensive/complicated water heater that requires yearly maintenance, and generally cannot be repaired by homeowner.

There is a reset button located behind the top cover plate on the side. Remove four screws to remove cover and carefully spread insulation apart to access element, thermostat, and reset button. It is a small round red button. If you push it in and it stays thens the element should come on. If it pops right back out then you need to look at changing the reset.Thank you.

I have a Rheem 50 gal smartwater ignition system tank that just stopped heating--it's 10 years old

If it just quit the first thing I would do is to make sure that the breaker is on .Then take then screws out that hold the cover plates on the side of the heater. Carefully spread the insulation apart and you should see a small red rest button . Push the button in and if it goes in and stays there wait for awile and see if you have hot water. About an hour and you should be getting there. If the reset button goes in but pops right back out when you let go of it then you either have a bad reset or possible a bad element.
If you have a volt meter you can check incoming power on main terminal block and at each element.Remember that this is a 240 volt unit so be careful. Also see what the thermostat is set at and turn it up if you can.
If you can get it going again it would be to your benefit to flush your water heater out. By draining and flushing you can extend the life and effiency of your heater. Thank you

Top heating element was broke. Replaced got hot water for week. Now have to run hot water for 20 mins before it goes from warm to hot. Top heating element reads 240VAC bottom heating element reads...

look for a badly connected power line ont he bottom element, or any connection upstream of the power terminals. voltage readings usually drop to that range when you only have one side of the 220v circuit connected.

RHEEM 40 GAL ELEC TALL Water Heater 6YR SC 82VH402: my rheem 81sv40d water heater quit heating water. ...

I have the same problem about every 3-4 months. Mine is also about 10 or 11. It is usually the sediment at the bottom that causes this. Once the plumber flushes it, it works again. My problem is that I dont know how he did it and the vavle is at the floor level. I am never home when it is repaired. Regular maintenance (flushing) is how you avoid this from reoccurring. That is, if that is the cause of your issue.
