Quantaray QBX-8000xi owners manual

Question 1 - Will the Quantaray QBX-800xi work with my new Sony Alpha 100 DSLR?

Question 2 - Is there somewhere I can find an owners manual  I would prefer a download, but if there is somewhere I can get one via snail mail, I would appreciate an address.

Re: Quantaray QBX-8000xi owners manual

1. No.

Unfortunately not.

This flash is a superb budget alternative to the Minolta alternatives but is only suitable for their film cameras. Sony's SLR's are based on the later Minolta Digital SLR's and they're all incompatible with this flash.

The technical differences between the film and digital Minolta cameras explains why a Minolta 5600HS (for example) had to be redesigned and redesignated as a 5600HS(D). The former will not work on Sony Alpha models, but the latter is fully compatible.

2. I haven't managed to find a manual for this model in my stock room and failed to trace one online.

Yes and no. It will work fine as a manual flash, putting the burden of figuring out correct exposure on your shoulders. It will work fine in the automatic modes on a Nikon camera.

Quantaray makes a Canon version of the flash which will work in the automatic modes on the Rebel XSi.

Doesn't work with canon d40 digital camera

You may have identified your own problem.

Your camera is either a Nikon d40 or a Canon EOS 40d (aka Digital Rebel), there's no such thing as a Canon d40.

If your Quantaray flash has the wrong brand dedication module on the bottom for your brand then it won't work properly (if at all).

If this is not the cause, then please be more descriptive: does the flash power up at all, will it work with other cameras, do other external flashes work on your camera? You may just need to go into the menu and enable the hotshoe.

Click here as well if you lack an operation manual: Quantaray products are always a pain to find manuals for as they're badge-engineered models supplied in the USA by Ritz/Wolf. The trick is always to find what the individual product is usually sold as. In your case, it's a ProMaster FTD5700. Page 2 of the manual will help you to identify which dedicated module you need for this flash to work with your camera.

I hope that I've helped, if not then please report back with additional details, or if I've helped you to solve your problem then please take a moment to rate my answer.

To what extent is this flash dedicated to Sony DSLR?

The flash will provide all the automatic features with the Sony dSLR. With other SLRs, digital or film, you'll have to use it in manual mode.

How can I get the Quantaray QTB-9500A to work with the Canon rebel XT? It worked fine with my ellanIIE. Can I order a new module? Thank you for the help

You'll need the "AF module CN", but as the flash is no longer made will have trouble finding one.

It helps if you search for the correct flash model as Quantaray is a no-name bit of badge engineering for Ritz/Wolf.

Your flash is really a ProMaster FTD5700.

I hav a Quantaray 9550 with a module to fit a Minolta Maxxum xtsi. Can it be used with a sony alpha?

Yes, it can, but you will likely loose some of features that make the 9550 such a nice flash.
Better bet, contact a dealer for Quantaray and buy the Alpha module.

I have a plan to get PENTAX AF 500 FTZ flash. i have a doubt if this model will be fine working for my sony alpha 200 DSLR. kesavan b

Check the configuration of the hot shoe on the flash AND the camera. The only issue you should have, is setting up for the heat range and the syncronizing speed.

Quantaray QDC-900WA

Quantaray appears to not be a company at all It is affiliated with Ritz Camera and neither Quantaray nor Ritz actually manufacture anything.

The Quantaray SLR lenses are made in the Sigma factory. But many feel that they are not equal to the Sigma branded lenses.

I haven't found the maker of the flash units, yet. I should learn more this evening. An interesting mystery.

In here, you can find the User Guide for Quantaray 900 for Nikon TTL Flash

Good luck.

Fuji s7000

Thanx to forum input I found a Quantaray qb-350a flash with a single contact on the hotshoe. By turning on "external flash" in the Fuji s7000 allows the Q350 to work beautifully and for about $40 bucks. It also works on earlier Fuji's like the 6200.

Quantaray PZ-1 DSZ and Sony alpha 100

Having the same problem with the Quantaray 7500A and my Sony Alpha 200. I either have to go to full manual or overexposed. I've sent off a few emails to Ritz but still haven't gotten a reply.

Owner's manual or instructions?

Hey Guys -

I too had a similar situation and was told to contact Ritz Camera (I Googgled it). I also contacted the following company and finally got a manual:

Apparently, my flash, QUANTARAY PZ-1 POWER ZOOM Flash unit , was sold under another name, PZ4000 Af. Hope this helps. If you have the same unit as me, conatct me at and I'll be happy to send you the manual that was provided me.
