I have a GE Mod jgbc20beh1wh which I believe is an XL44. It has all five knobs in a row which works the four top burner and the middle knob works the oven. I had a pro install a new Glow Bar over a year ago and now it won't go off when the oven knob is off. I smell gas so I unplug the oven and the glow bar went out. I call the Gas co. and the tech said that it looked like I had a bad selector switch but I can't find any manuals that refer to the selector switch. He check the stove with the gas flowing and there were no signs of leakage anywhere. Could this really be my problem?

Not my expertise and with gas ; YOU NEED A EXPERT ;

If the selector switch he is referring to , is the knob you turn to switch it on, then yes it could be the problem. We had one that swtiched on ok, but never switched off completely.

I dont normally adjocate spending money, but leaking gas appliances could kill you and your neighbours

If it was me , i would replace it or get it fixed asap.

SOURCE: ge spectra gas stove top not lighting

If your top burners are not lighting or will not work, it is possible that the burners have become dirty or wet. Please follow the troubleshooting directions below before calling service:

  1. Turn you burner to the Lite position:

If you hear clicking or sparking, go to Step 2.

If you do not, check your circuit breakers. If the circuit breaker is ok, we recommend that you schedule service by calling 1-800-432-2737 or schedule service online.

  2. Clean the burner and electrode:

First remove the burner grate, cap, and head. Use a needle or paper clip to poke through the holes on the burner head. Re-assemble and try the burner.

Remove the burner grate, cap, and head. Even if it looks clean, wipe the tip of the electrode with a clean, dry paper towel and PRESS IT DOWN. Re-assemble and try the burner, again.

Check to see if the burner works, If not, then go to Step 3.

  3. Re-assemble - Make sure that each burner top matches its burner bottom. The burner top will lay flat if put on correctly.

Check to see if the burner works, If not, then go to Step 4.

  4. The spark igniter is operating properly, but the burner is still not lighting. At this point, we would recommend that you schedule service by calling 1-800-432-2737 or schedule service online.

SOURCE: oven won't work

Yes. The ignitor must register 2.9 amps or more to operate correctly and ignite the gas. Replace the ignitor.

SOURCE: GE profile JGSP44 Oven stopped working

Ignitor needs to be working for the gas valve to open. If the ignitor does not reach the proper amp draw the gas valve will not open. There is a video at www.appliancehelponline.com/servicemanual.html this will walk you thru performing an amp draw test on the ignitor.

GE Profile cook top JGP636WEV7WW two left burners will not ignite. I replaced electrodes, tested control knob output and ignition module output and all are good. What am I missing?

Not unusual in my limited experience, we have had two cookers where the ignition system would only light cold burners and would never light all the burners - once the majority was lit there was always a couple that wouldn't light though not always the same two.
We never did find the cause...

Burner Igniter will not Spark

No, actually each knob has its own switch and any knob will energize the spark module which sparks at all burners. So, just replace the defective switch which slides over the shaft of the gas valve. Careful! unplug the unit, these are 120 volt switches. Good luck.

Burner knobs melt on GE Profile XL44 gas range.

I had the same problem and searched extensively for a solution. They even have a video from GE on the net telling you how to avoid melting them, which is basically don't open to broil and make sure the seal is good on the oven. Essentially, don't use their oven normally like the rest of the ovens in the world. Finally I went to a few show rooms to look for a knob to substitute for the garbage ones from GE. On one of the new models they have a solid cast stainless knob (with a plastic shaft, I think it is delrin) which looks identical but has a longer shaft. I obtained the PN which is WB03T10262 and ordered one. I trimmed the shaft length to match the length of the defective knob with a hack saw, and had to trim out some mold flashing in the cavity. After a couple of fittings I was finshed and it looks fine. I then ordered 3 more from the Appliance Zone for $15.98 each. GE's price for the same part was $25.25!!

For the GE XL44 model, where would i find the pilot light? the stove is not working

There is not pilot light on the stove top since the burner is activated by a spark generate by high voltage to a small ceramic disk with a wire protruding from it by the burner.
You have the have AC Power to the stove and you should hear a clicking when you slightly turn on the burner. Once the burner is on fire then turn the burner control to the desired temperature. If the burner will not light after 4 seconds of clicking sounds turn the burner control off and make sure the round gas diffuser on top of the burner is correctly seated on the burner. It should lock in place and is removable for daily cleaning of the stove. Now try the burner control again in the light position for no more than four seconds to see if it lights.
Do you smell gas? Do you hear clicking when slightly turning the burner knob? If yes to both the stove is working and the top of the burner is not seated correctly. If no on either or both you may have a stove, electrical or gas problem.

Sounds like igniter problem. Did some one pull the electrical cord or has a fuse or breaker blown/ Things to check. Your igniter is run by electricity.

Want know how to open the top of range to clean?

This is not really meant to be done by user. If done incorrectly you could easily bend or break the gas lines to the top burners.

First you need to remove all the screws in the top burners and remove the burners. Then carefully twist out the ignitors. They do not necessarily have to be disconnected. Then remove all the knobs in front. and remove the manifold cover (that's the cover behind the knobs).

You will then be able to remove the screws that hold the top down and lift the top up high enough to clean under it. Lift this carefully though making sure that the gas lines do not bend when you do it.

Stove top pilot light

I have a GE Gas Stove XL44 the stove top buners don't light by themselves without manual lighting. When I turn on the buner knob the buner doesn't click. Also I used my self- cleaning oven for the first time and stopped it before the time was up after that is when the stove top buners wouldn't light by theirselves.
