According to Acer's website, your system uses this memory configuration...

256MB DDR2 533/667/800 SDRAM expandable to 4GB

My suggestion to you is, if you have the original 256 loaded, find a good bargain on DDR2 667, one gb memory modules and REPLACE what is installed, instead of adding to it.

If you add to it, and it is the incorrect speed (that's the 667 number), you may experience some very undesirable results.

good luck
tony

Keyboard meaning

Hi,

With the indulgence of the other posters.

The Acer Aspire AST180-UD400B or better known as Aspire T180 comes with a standard keyboard as shown below

2dba419.jpg

Should this be what you have, the basic keys on the top left are:
Esc - Escape key. It is basically a shortcut to STOP or get out of a program sequence. Often this is as a shortcut key for the Stop button in many web browsers
F1 - usually launches a program's Help Guide
F2 - usually launches Rename command
F3 - usually launches Find or Search command
F4 - formerly a DOS for launching previous OS but currently used in conjunction with Alt that closes an active, open window and/or exits a program. With no active, open windows, it prompts you to exit.

If for some reason your keyboard is different, it is possible that the dealer could have bundled a different/after market keyboard such as those web or multimedia as shown below. The top left keys then would be either for web browser shortcut keys or multimedia shortcut keys or some other specialized functions.

Should this be the case, pls post back with the brand/model which may be determined by looking at the bottom or any of the markings at the top.

Hope this be of additional help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kindest regards.

My Acer Aspire 180 ast power light flashes 4 times when I try to start it but it doesn't power up. I've unplugged the power and plugged it back. Can hear the fan start when I plug it back but it still...

Could be a faulty power supply or maybe motherboard problem. But I would open the case and clean the processor fan first as it could be a heat issue preventing start up.

Want to add memory all 4 spots are used

If all of your memory slots are used, you will need to remove the memory that is currently installed in order to increase your RAM. It appears that the T180s were originally configured with 256MB, but they are expandable to 4GB. If there are 4 slots (I couldn't find any documentation with images), you can use a maximum size of 1GB modules for each slot. Just remember that if you are using a 32-bit operating system and you upgrade to 4GB of RAM, you will not be able to use all 4GB. The BIOS will report 4GB RAM, but the operating system will only see approximately 3.4GB.
