The reason is that you have SATA hard drives and you need the drivers for it. Are you downgrading from Vista to XP?

When you turn on the pc look for a message that says "press f2, Del to enter setup". When you get to setup ensure that your HDD is listed. If no hard drive is listed there is an option to press a special function key to look for all HDD's. Once you have the hard drive properly listed following the instructions to save the configuration and reboot. Again your hard drive should be listed on startup. Insert your XP cd and reboot or goto 'Setup' on the cd and following the instructions. An option to reformat the HDD should be listed.

As your machine is booting up press F2 and go into BIOS - there look for an option for your disk drives. Reset them to Legacy and it will install.

yes you could simply format the harddrive in Fat32 using your macos that would be the best solution but don`t forget to backup your data by copy pasting the files on your mac or something else and after that to move them on the external hdd again to be available on the windows machine

Hello i'm having HP PAVILLION DV6000 and OS is

You first remove that device from device manager.
Then restart the pc.
You may check the BIOS menu for that device for any clarification.
After restart since u have removed it the OS will detect the device and install it automatically.
Hope this helped.

New hdd for laptop from Nippon Labs

Yes you can format this drive from your XP machine, or in vista (or xp for that matter) right click on my computer and then left click on manage.

When the computer management screen comes up highlight "Disk Management" on the left side. This will then display your drives in the right side. From here you can right click on the drive and create partitions, format etc.

You will need ghost or some other cloning software if you want to image the old drive to the new one. However if you have restore disks for the computer you should also be able to just install the OS on the new drive.

Hope this helps

try to download belarc advisor software. Run this in your vista OS and send it to me so I can check your hardware specs. This is the only way to avoid problems in the future or before you start the formatting.

There is option in BIOS called something about automated SATA recognition or similar - disable it. It is under System configuration. And if you are putting new drive in then run full test from BIOS (Hard drive selftest - takes about 79min.)
I tried to reinstall Windows Media center on my HP dv6000 because my previous hdd crashed - When I put in installation cd - it said that it can't find hdd. I spent week to figuring that out. The thing is - as far as you haven't disabled that SATA thing in BIOS - PC doesn't recognize hdd. But only with Windows media center edition. With all other windows xp - there is no such problems. Strange.
