Re: jvc tv

Check for fly back transformer
but remember that before you replace any thing in eht section check for power supply output to be ok.
also check for diodes, capacitor connected to flyback transfomer.
also check for mica sheet is not cracked or h/output is not touching to chassis.
good luck

My Jvc tv has horizontal lines going across it and makes a staticy sound. And there was a smoky smell in the air around it. There is still picture and audio but we have unhooked it from the wall. We tried...

possible yoke has overheated and this was the cause of smoke smell.
has to be replaced as horizontal deflection circuit has blown output transistor. There is also a retrace capacitor that may have to be replaced along with it. Regards, meder's tv service.

Picture on screen has gone to only 1/4 of screen with strong line through picture.

This sounds like the OPT or LOPT has blown or weak ( OPT = Line output transistor. LOPT = Line output transformer.)
This job should only be carried out by a professional engineer. I would take it to your local TV repair person. Hope this helps.

I want a LOPT (Line output transformer) EF58149 for my 21 ?Onida color TV model number-8751, which was purchased in 1989. As per the Onida authorized service person, this modle LOPT is not available in...

The service person who told you so is correct. EF series LOTs are of old National Kit, and is not available now. If you have a chance to get it from somewhere, it will cost more that RS 800/= ie about $18, and with that money you can purchase a new kit for your TV, provided your TVs picture tube is good. Just do as you like in this case. Todays TV kits are assemled and aligned, comes with more than 250 channels and includes all accecories, like remote handet, fitting material and so on. OK.

No Picture

Rarely picture tube also shows the same symptom. High pitch sound is due to through deflection area LOT power supply is loaded. Compulsary horizontal output transister short. From your statement i think Lot puncture takes place. Change LOT and horizontal output transister and check tv is now working.
