Question about Dryers

1 Answer

I bought an LG DLGX2802L and converted it to LP with the proper conversion kit. When I turned the dryer on, it sounded like a flame thrower or something! The sound of the flame is VERY LOUD! I wonder if this is normal? Has anyone else had the same symptoms?

Thanks Eric! Yep, the orifice was changed and the gas valve screw was turned all the way clockwise as far as it would go to adjust the pressure to accommodate the LP gas pressure requirements. I have not tried to fire it with the cover(s) off yet, so I could actually see the flame. It sounds like the flame is so strong that it is going to blow itself out. I have seen this with old style blow torches when the fuel knob is turned too far open and the flame doesn't start at the end of the nozzle, but rather around 1 inch out and away from the nozzle, creating the very loud flame. I wonder, could I back the regulator screw out to decrease the pressure (de-rate for the 5,000 foot altitude I am at? Please advise......

LP is higher pressure and smaller orfice so it does sound different. Make sure you did all the steps in order or you could have an over flame condition.

The BEST solution is to use a meter to set the proper pressure. Do you have the correct orifice for your altitude? I would assume so but sometimes they are miss marked or drilled a little off. The blowtorch affect is also caused by too much air. No shutter to adjust as far as I can remember.

I see to have too much gas pressure after converting my Neptune dryer from natural gas to LP

you should not try to adjust the flame. LP burns more yellow that NG. The gas pressure automatically regulates the airflow based on the dynamic pressure that goes through the burner chamber. If your flame is roaring and pushing forward, everything is Okay, if it is a "Lazy" and falling flame, you have a blockage of the airflow - venting system

Who did the conversion to lp? Do you have the old part from the conversion still? If not you can order a kit to put it back to stock which is ng. Not hard for a guy that's handy but time consuming. 2-2.5hrs.

You should have voiced your concerns long ago with the store you purchased it from. But if they did not convert it, you would have large, yellow flames.Proper burner flames will have no yellow in them. They should be only a blue flame.

Yellow flame after an Lp conversion

I remember having a stove with an adjustable orifice in the oven. It looked like a double nut arrangement. If that is what you find, tightening them to each other shrinks the size. Should turn fairly easy, do not force. You may also find a pilot adjustment behind the oven control knob. Hope this helps.

I cannot seem to get an answer from Amana as to how I convert my natural gas range to LP. According to Amana no conversion kit is needed. Yet they cannot tell me how to convert it. The model number is:...

Gas ranges usually come with LP orifices attatched to them somewhere. In a small envelope or bag taped to the back or in the drawer they should be there. The natural orifices need to be removed and the LP ones installed. If the LP orifices are not installed properly you may get irratic flame and the flame can blacken the bottom of pans this needs to be remedied immediately due to the danger of the carbon monoxide being produced. I found good instructions for LP conversion at this site : www.peerlesspremier.com/faq-rangeconversion.htm

Natural gas to propane conversion LG dryer

You posted under a combo washer / dryer WD-4343RHD.
For a gas dryer, conversion is to replace Nat gas orifice with LP one (the LP orifice has a air hole going cross ways through it) plus screwing the regulator blocker (brass slot head screw on top of the gas valve) all the way down (if you missed that step, I would expect your symptoms). Also, make sure you have a good vent with strong air flow at the outdoor outlet. If poor vent, short cycling may occur.
