Question about Philips Televison & Video

May Magnavox MWC24T5B tv/vcr/dvd combo will not stay on.

My Magnavox MWC24T5B works for about a minute then the tv shuts down. The only way to get the TV to stay on is to have a VCR tape in the machine, stopped. This will allow you to switch to the TV and watch programing. This is method is starting to not work and I would like to know how to make a repair that will fix this issue.Anybody know what to do?

I've found the center LED in the VHS player faulty with those symptoms. Change it you'll be fine. Larry

Would this have anything to do with the vHS not spitting the video out now? We have to manually use knives at each side of the tape to slide in and protract the video tape out of the machine. It used to spit them out so that you could easily pull them the rest of the way out, but not now. Any suggestions, and where do you get parts?

Any idea why VHS won't spit out the tapes any longer?

I have a magnavox dvd/vcr combo mwc24t5b without a remote control. Is there a way I can get to the menu without it? And if so how?

You should be able to navigate with the buttons on the front of the unit. If it does not have buttons then you can get a universal remote, program it for your player and use that.

Magnavox tv/dvd/vcr combo model mwc24t5b i put a tape in the vcr hit play and the tv shuts off. everything else work fine on the tv.

Usually when that happened for me, it meant that one of my small children had also put a foreign object in the slot where the VHS tape goes. Any type of obstruction will cause the VCR to jam and force the television to shut off.

The power supply is shutting down for one reason or another. This unit has 4 shutdown alarms feeding the main processor. It doesn't take much to trip it and believe me, it's a ***** to find it if it is a subtle condition. The VCR could be shutting it down as well if it is not reset exactly right.

This is what I did with the one unit I worked on; It would shut down after 5 seconds. The picture was good when it breifly came on -- but it shut down anyway.

IC1601 is the shutdown opto isolator that will shut off the supply. I removed it and the set came on. After a few minutes one of the power supply diodes started smoking so I unplugged it. The diode, D1618 was bad so I replaced it and the TV worked. But, I could not put IC1601 back in without it still shutting down. I spent hours searching and couldn't find anything. Since it was my son's TV (which he found at the dump) it was OK by me. BUT, if you remove this IC, (it is a four pin located near the yellow transformer) the set will come on no matter what. Just remember, if there is a problem, it will show up quickly. Maybe a new troubleshooting method? Ohms law troubleshooting? No, unfortunately not. Just be careful and try to find the problem.

If you google this model number, you will find a free schematic that --someone-- uploaded to a free schematic website.
