Thinkpad R51 Audio Driver

The driver, 1ga241ww, that is listed on IBM's web page does not work. In device manager, there are no yellow question marks, everything is fine in device manage, however, the sound still does not work. I have looked everywhere online to find a solution, any suggestions??

I had this exact same problem. Try this:

Above the keyboard are three hard keys for volume (down, up, and mute). The mute button only mutes, it does NOT unmute. To unmute, push the volume up button a few times. Now try your sounds again.

I was very confused because the hard mute key does not affect the GUI at all (you don't see the little speaker with the red x in the notification area). Hope this helps!

Check if the mute box is not ticked in the volume setting.
Check the sound level is not set to the minimum setting.
Connect headphones and check if you can hear sounds.
If none of these work then you could have a faulty audio device.

The same model ThinkPad can have different types of network, video and audio drivers and unless you know exactly which one is installed in your ThinkPad, you need to download all the drivers and install each driver until you find the right driver. When you download the drivers, write down the device driver and it's file name so you have a record of which driver you are installing and which directory the unzipped files are located on your hard drive. Go to the IBM/Lenovo WEB site - support/download page and download the latest Windows device drivers for your model computer, Use this link: - http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/product.do?template=%2Fproductselection%2Flandingpages%2FbrowseByProductLandingPage.vm&sitestyle=lenovo&brandind=10&validate=true

My ibm thinkpad 2373 type have audio problem

restart your PC. then try it again. If there are still problems, install the audio drivers provided in the links:
chipset driver-install first:
http://allintopology2.googlepages.com/T41CHIPSETINTELINF.rar
!restart!
sound driver itself:
http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/mobiles/1ga241ww.exe
!restart!
now you should be done

you might also want to try these downloads:

first install this:
http://allintopology2.googlepages.com/T41CHIPSETINTELINF.rar

then try these in the same order(no.3 or 4 must work) (5 is the best!!!):

http://allintopology2.googlepages.com/T41AUDIO.rar
http://used-laptop.blogspot.com/2008/01/ibm-t41-2373-drivers.html
ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software4/COL9139/ob-24549-1/SP28818.exe
http://www.nodevice.com/driver/company/sound_max.html
5.-the best one:
http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/mobiles/1ga241ww.exe

http://cr.am/framed.php?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww%2D307.ibm.com%2Fpc%2Fsupport%2Fsite.wss%2FquickPath.do%3FquickPathEntry%3D2373zb5%26sitestyle%3Dlenovo&ref=driverguide
http://list.driverguide.com/list/company1356/

afterwards you can check for newer(updated) drivers this way:
Start menu=> control panel=> performance and maintenance=> system=> hardware=> device manager=> sound video and game controllers=> [the name of your soundcard driver] => driver=> update driver +enable to check online(at win support site)
Or start windows update, choose CUSTOM and look into the Optional updates/ hardware(or devices or drivers?)

RATE THIS fixya, thank you
